Royals Wheels..

Ok, I am going to be taking the plunge on a retrim in the next week or two, but - TOO MANY CHOICES!!!

I have rapidly learned to loathe the std E85 wheel on my car, why is the thing so hard!!

So, I really like the perforated leather (is it nappa?) option, but the alcantara looks sooooo tactile..

Can I ask what peeps have had done, and possibly pics?

I assume going for a "double wrap" will make it thicker and softer, but what about "thumb grips" can these also be beefed up a bit?

Come on guys (and gals) show me your wheels!!

Mike

This was mine after Royal retrim. Had the wheel thickened, perforated at the sides, and with red stitching only (to match the standard Alpina stitching). The spokes were done by me as Royals couldn't do them - they did retrim my zhp at the same time though, so that also matches.

I like those spokes, what did you use on them?

Mike

I bought some thin leather, skived them myself at the joins, then used contact adhesive. Its leather clad on the back and front as well :)

Z4 E85 - double padded, perforated nappa sides, nappa top-bottom, with M-stitching

Mine also extra padding, perforated sides, napa top and bottom. M stitching.

I think I paid around £110. He re trimmed a wheel then I went to his to have it swapped for my old one.

Perforated seems to be obligatory, this is what I did, plain Napa top bottom, perforated sides, double padding essential and black stitching.
Also had my ZHP recovered in perforated by royals and bought the perforated handbrake handle from BMW to complete the set.
Had a new windscreen fitted and it all transformed the car, took 10 years off it

If your car is anything close to being a daily driver I'd steer clear of alcantara.

I really wanted it but definitely didn't plan to get the wheel retrimmed ever again if it looked worn so opted for the standard nappa leather with perforated sides, M stitching and double padding. About £130 from Royals.

Car isn't a DD, although I'll use it whenever I can...

I just think the alcantara looks so much more tactile than leather...

Hi I went with double padding (an absolute must), perf nappa sides, nappa top and bottom ///M stitching.
I absolutely love it

thats rubbish , alcantara much easier to look after . My m3 wheel looked like new after 3 years of daily use .

Are people still getting double padding on the M Sport wheel or just the others to make it more like an M Sport?

I've read that even with double padding on the standard wheels, they're still not as thick as a sport wheel. I think someone said the standard wheel is 3.6'', double padded is 4.0'' and sport wheel is 4.2'' diameter.

I could be wrong though.

I actually had a retrimmed standard wheel and removed it as it was very skinny compared to my sport wheel. Unsure how much padding it had though.

It's not rubbish. I've also seen the wear first hand. It may have something to do with peoples' skin (oily etc).

Looking at mine (double padded standard) I'd be inclined to agree. It's much better than it was but still a tiny bit slimmer than the M wheel.

Yeah, very true - even the double padding doesn't match the chunky feel of an M Sport Wheel
