Royal steering wheel refurb - great decision!

Seeing this prompted me to look for a kit on AliExpress. Last time I checked, they didn't make these for the e89.

I fitted one to an Our e83 run-around a year ago and was very impressed! Still looks as good as the day I fitted it.
Not quite up to the standard of Royals, but at 10% of the price its worth a go :)

Just got mine back from Royal, great job and simple swap. Only challenging bit was locating the spring clips to release the airbag, well worth the cost. I used the deposit and return option so didn't have a few weeks without wheel

How long did your whole process take, I have emailed them on their contact page about 10 days ago now and have not heard a jot..............
I know they were closed for refurb but not even answering emails?

I ordered the leather one from Mewant in April and still waiting for it to arrive. :x

I sent an email and then had to ring them, they are just very busy, small business that are just very good at what they do. It took them two weeks to refurb mine and during that period they weren't taking on any new jobs due to the amount of orders they had, guess everyone thought, can't use the car so I'll send the steering wheel away to Royals. I know at the moment they are shut until the 29th, all I can say is well worth the wait :D

Have you done one before?

This is an AliExpress genuine leather cover I fitted to our X3 runaround.
Quite pleased with the result for £20.

That lucks very good,I would be very happy with that.
I ordered mine through AliExpress, they are putting the delay down to lack of flights due to Covid 19.
I have not done one before,my wife is good with a needle and thread :D

Thanks. I'm pleased with it!

The sewing part is quite easy. The cover arrives pre stitched, so you don't actually sew into the leather as such, just loop through the existing stitches.
The most difficult part is lining it all up correctly - took me a few tries.

Have you found a seller that takes PayPal? I don't fancy risking my credit card number!

That looks OK for £20. For a vehicle you care about I would certainly spend the money and go with the Royal Steering Wheels option but for a shed you don't to spend money on that's pretty good.

I have no doubt the royals is slightly better quality and they do a better job at fitting it than me. But to be able to tell, you'd have to look pretty closely.

I guess it depends on what you think is a suitable amount of money to spend on a steering wheel cover for a 10-15k Z4.

If the car was something extra special, I'd have no issue. But for most of the E89's out there, I don't think it's worth it.

I bought one of those covers to put on the wheel in my old E46. The one they sent to me isn't real leather so I went back to the seller and he offered a refund pretending that he sent the wrong item. I suspect they might all be like that.

Was your item proper leather? If you look up really close at the smooth or perforated section and you can see lots of small dots instead of proper leather grain then it's just plastic. It's not even nice fake leather.

R.E92..you are quite the detective..good spot..sometimes if it's too good to be true..

My leather wheel cover that I ordered from Mewant through AliExpress has still not arrived after ordering at the beginning April.Last week I instigated their dispute procedure .I hope it's more efficient than their delivery.

Low and behold the cover arrived today, must have around the world many times. It looks to be decent quality. Will give an update when fitted.

I bought one from seller called East Detailing Equipment. It’s nice leather though and went on okay. Not perfect but good enough for the £35 or so that it cost me👍👍
