Royal hospital nurse who took hoax call from DJs found dead

peddy, That's also a bit harsh, proper depression is a terrible thing. I've lost friends to suicide and the last thing I thought was that they were selfish.

Been reading this, and now watching the media focus on what happened... It is a tragedy, terrible that someone feels they have to take their life, such a waste.

However, I feel that some of you need to wake up to the irony here - everyone is going on about the radio station who made the call as if it is their 'fault', and again the same is true on the TV this morning.... when in actual fact it seems to me that the real catalyst for the tragedy was the total media hysteria that followed the news of the call being reported in the press and on the TV. I'd say the BBC or the Sun (for example) are infinitely more responsible than those who did something that happens every day all over the world... And we all have a great laugh about it when we hear it or get sent a link on YouTube. I think, yet again, the news reporting media have a lot to answer to here.

Think I mentioned in one of my earlier posts the press coverage was contributary to how she must have felt... but I don't see any blame on their part... they simply reported it.

If they phrased it against her in such ways as...

Then slightly different lol but imo the press coverage was inevitably influential, but not responsible in terms of having done anything wrong.

In truth it's difficult to blame anyone here, she decided to take her own life.

The dj's must be feeling terrible, sympathy - I don't know, but equally no one questioned the prank before her death emerged.

Why is there always a need to point the finger of blame in this society , it's just a set a tragic circonstances .

i think that the royals play a part in this too - some of them seem to fart above their arses a little. however that is just a personal opinion.

nevertheless it is a bad state of affairs, we all make mistakes at work, and i for one often think that despite my getting paid considerably more than a nurse, a mistake made by me has no real consequence.

having said that, it's terrible that of all the mistakes a nurse can make it was this one that pushed her over the edge.

too true. if we spent half as much time working for the good in this country as we do on 'enquiries' i suspect mistakes would diminish rather rapidly.

it gets to the point where nobody wants to take responsibility for anything for fear of the outcome - i recently changed jobs and the amount of 'teflon tony's in the place is unreal - no one takes anything on their shoulders.

but if things are looked into then lesons can be learned

this nurse trusted those who rang and spoke to her, she had no reason to think they were just out to make themselves look good by taking the piss out of her, not everybody body is strong

totally agree - but most times things are looked into with the sole aim of allocating blame, not preventing a repeat.

and i totally agree with that

Being Aussie DJs I suspect it was all done for a laugh rather than for sinister lets see what info we can get on the royals, reminded me of a spitting image sketch. I mean c'mon when you hear the telephone call I found it hilarious, do you honestly think they would have even remotely considered the prank if someone was going to take their own life over it, thats what tragic. They weren't to know it was going to end like this.

Tim.

I was determined not to chip in on this thread but I completely agree with Tim. Its origin was simply humour - perhaps misplaced and not my cup of tea - but humour nonetheless and the sort of thing that has been going on for years. This time it may have proved a trigger for a tragic act and I feel for the woman's family and friends. I also feel for those involved in the prank because, unless they are inhuman, they are probably about as low as they can go at the moment.

But the reason people are so fired up is because of the media storm surrounding it. People commit suicide every day, often through circumstances that are so horrendous that I can't even imagine living their lives. And at best, such stories make an afterthought in a newspaper and we all barely bat an eyelid.

B@ll@cks if u think she had other issues - There was clearly a witch hunt

Once this was aired & she was identified because it's the Royals am sure everyone inside that hospital would be looking to protect their ar@e and looking to hang her out to dry. She would have been summoned to a disciplinary meeting over professional misconduct - am sure she'd been told it would mean loss of her NHS PIN number which basically means she's unemployable, life trashed & media fodder just because two guys in Oz wanted a cheap laugh.

I recon every member of medical staff in that hospital is now totally fearful of working with the royals & as for Kate & William, regardless of how innocent they are in the events can't imagine how they must now be feeling.

I think people are being harsh of the DJ's. People play pranks all the time and no one complains then when no one kills themselves, so not sure why people are being so critical towards them.

What's somewhat ironic is all this media attention is likely having the very same effect on the DJs, only much harsher.

The DJs rang up with silly voices playing a phone joke that has been on radio for decades, and now people are basically accusing them of murder in comments and social media. Latest reports say that they are seriously struggling with this.

Heard about the DJs on the news today - the press are like a pack of piranhas going from one body splashing in the pond to another, it's ugly as hell and really getting out of hand

If there were other reasons then to some levels fair enough that's why I specifically said If commited suicide for this one reason. If she did then I think it was selfish to her family. Especially her two childern.

Tragic. However, there have been thousands of prank calls before, and this is the first suicide I've heard of.

Now watch all the entertaining prank calls stop.

What were the possible outcomes:

- They called, they were routed to police - end of call, no fun, wasted time.
- They called, they got through (like now) and the results would have been:
- Someone would got sacked.
- Someone would be reprimanded.

It was never going to be good for someone.

Or of course they call, the person smells a rat but continues the call to find out if its genuine, perhaps they immediately get hung up on, perhaps specific protocols are followed by hospital staff and the call goes nowhere. There are a ton of scenarios that don't end in a suicide, this was just a silly prank that, while not everyones cup of comedic tea, was just intended as a bit of light hearted fun.

Its easy to speculate but the facts are that a daft prank was carried out and then sensationalised by the media and endlessly played out and someone, possibly not of sound mind, took their life. The reaction of the media and the lady that took the call is entirely disproportionate and even more distasteful is the terrible vitriol directed at the DJs who absolutely didn't do this with any malice.

Now i shall step from my soap box and shut up for a few more months.

Any blame surely must fall onto the hospital management?

More so for the lack of policy when in inevitable occurred and their employees received communications about their VIP patient
