Roof via key = sorted = rep for Hallmark

This is where the Reinhold and such like modules win as you only have to press the button three time and then it does it's thing, open and close. I hated the fact the signal/key was so iffy before I got the module, one of the best mods I've done.
 
Main dealers wont do this due to health and safety issues. You need to find an indi garage with an autologic diagnostic machine, if they have one of these they should be able to do it, it only takes 5 minutes and they can give you other features like the three flash indicate.

Sorry didnt realise that it had to be after 54 plate. My dealer said all cars had the feature. My previous car was a 05 plate 2.5i and now i've the 06 plate M. So i presumed all did. sorry for providing wrong info.

I had mine done at Autologic in Hessle, East Yorkshire. Its a very good BMW indi !
 
I think on pre facelift models the convenient opening feature works by putting the key into the doorlock then turning and holding the key for an x amount of seconds.

Such a shame, you sure about this though? OP's Zed looks to be pre-facelift...
 
A chap i know has the pre facelift Z4 and im sure on reading his manual that was the original factory setting on it i believe.

That is correct I have just tried it and it closes if you do it aswell but in the lock way.
 
I believe it's 2004 and onward models that can do the top via key function. All the 03's we just have to stick the key in the door.
 
About 54 plate and after you can drop it with the key remotely, and on all you put it up with the key in the door only.

The reason the key fails halfway is because it needs to be able to see the clown nose, if you stand behind the car when the roof moves it gets in the way. If you do it more from the side or the front it should always drop fully using the key.

No - my 04 doesn't do it from the door either! :(
 
My 04 didnt do it from the door but can now do it from the key remotely. Not tried in the lock since that coding took place though...
 
Had mine done this weekend at A1 BMW (think that's what they're called) just south of Stevenage, near Knebworth. Great service and very friendly.
My car already had the auto down roof, but now I have auto up, flash on lock and the one touch passenger window up. Sorted!!!!
...I've been wanting to do this for ages and came across these guys by accident - far easier than having to slog it up to Hull
 
so are you lot saying that an 03 car taken to an autologic garage will still not be able to do the roof/windows down by the key? :(
