Roof Troubles

Sorry to post another question about the Z4 roof but I've just bought a beaten up 2005 2.5l SE Z4 for a project car to restore. I've read all of the forums but haven't come across the same problem that I have.

When I press the roof down button, originally an amber light was showing, however the roof didn't unlatch, the windows didn't go down and the motor wasn't engaged. Since then I've inspected the micro switch, which seemed to be fine, and ensured that the tray was in the down position, and I've since reinstalled the same micro switch (a new one is on its way). Unfortunately now there is no light at all on the roof button, and still nothing happens when I press the button. All of the fuses seem to be fine.

I originally assumed that the problem would be the roof motor, (which still might need replacing), and which hasn't been relocated to the boot. However I need to take the roof off to inspect it, and can't do this as the roof doesn't unlatch.

Does anyone have any tips? Is the micro switch the most probable cause? Can the roof be unlatched manually rather than mechanically?

Many thanks,
Nick

Microswitch would cause an orange light normally, some code readers can read the roof module (I used carly) could be a broken wire inside the roof going to the unlatch motor, but I think with that problem the windows still go down.

Do a search for roof motor relocation, there are people on here who can get it out from its hole and move it into the boot in a couple of hours so it's a lot easier to replace if needed (and worth doing anyway to keep it dry)

You can put the roof down manually, it's the the handbook.

What happens if you manually unlatch from the front, using the allen key?
Does it then fold back on the button?

Edit: sorry just noticed you haven't manually unlatched it yet......................when you do, then try the button.

Although it might sound strange, try resetting your windows. The window drop is part of the top down system and if the windows are goofed up they can screw up the roof coming down.
