Well I've just come across this very informative video on the e89 roof failure.
Well worth a watch, hopefully it'll help someone somewhere....

Fantastic and such a simple fix. The diagnosis and unpicking the module wires though is way beyond my capability but I guess that this is how the electric roof experts operate. Great video

thanks for the link but it was posted earlier this week. only problem is I cant watch it without seeing Al Murry the 'pub landloard' :D

Thanks for that, I could not get the name of the guy he looks like, been on the tip of my tongue for ages. I can relax now aaaaaahhhh

The only negative i could see for the video, from the home diy fixer was that he had the equipment to open the boot.
I think most would be stumped at that point.
In fact that seems like a major disaster, if a wire breaks and can't even open the boot.
Makes me even more want to rig up some mechanical means to open the boot.

In the real word, the wires wil not"break" that clearly. They get weakened and loose contact while getting bended, but the contact will come back the next second.

I agree it was pretty informative but the Achilles Heel is obviously "how do you get in the boot?" I don't know if the average DIYer with say Carly or INPA/INSTA on a laptop etc would have the functionality available to override the boot or even the roof as I've never tried looking for it.

The thing with videos like this and so called factual/documentary TV for that matter, is you do have to suspend realism some what. As long as they're informative and get the message across, I don't see the harm. For me the video demonstrated pretty damn well what the fault is, where it is and how to fix it. So its gotta be a  from me. But obviously staged.

This is exactly how the wiring fault in my E85 roof loom manifested itself, not easy to initially diagnose but once I'd replaced all the suspect wires I've never had a re-occurrence

I'm someone somewhere will be inspired by the video to fix a roof fault, if not the actual fault in the video.
It just adds to the general knowledge base.
