I think most would be stumped at that point.
In fact that seems like a major disaster, if a wire breaks and can't even open the boot.
Makes me even more want to rig up some mechanical means to open the boot.

This is exactly how the wiring fault in my E85 roof loom manifested itself, not easy to initially diagnose but once I'd replaced all the suspect wires I've never had a re-occurrence
