Roof problems self inflicted

So I had fitted a gaptech RCH operator and was having intermittent problems (all connections soldered). Today I replaced with a replacement gaptech unit. However the new one worked for 1 cycle and then stopped.
I have removed the gaptech and want to get the car working as it should.
At the moment
1. Windows are down and will not raise
2. Hood is down but I don't think it is latched. You can grab the hood manually and raise it a couple of inches.
3. The top led is flashing. Pressing roof up button or roof down button makes the led go solid but then returns to flashing when you take finger off button.
4. Trying to close roof gives a whirring noise on driver s side just for a couple of seconds
5. When trying to use the new gaptech it worked for 1 cycle but seemed slower than normal. Then from closed trying to open it seemed to raise the hood fractionally and has been dead ever since.

So at the moment the gaptech is completely removed but windows are down and roof won't close
I have disconnected the battery several times and turned ignition on and off.
I need some help with logically thinking this through.

Was the first gaptech 'scotchlocked' in place?

Having removed the first module have you now got a disconnection (cut trough) in a cable - strip back the outer plastic where the first was fitted (to solder the next one in) if the wire breaks that could be your problem solder (or twist the ends together) and see if it works without a module first.

Replace gaptech while batt disconnected temporarily and then try to get everything closed after reconncting?
Would be my logical suggestion.
If that works. Then remove gaptech and place securely in the bin...

So in a nutshell. I cannot get my roof up.
Roof is down
Red light flashing
Press roof down button motor whirls for a couple seconds and light goes out
Pres roof up button red light starts to flash nothing happens with the roof.

All fuses checked
Wiring loom checked
Please help

It sounds like the cars got confused where it is in the cycle, couple of things might be worth a try, one is to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, see if it resets itself, the other refit your gaptech and try it off the key, not with the console buttons

Is it possible to raise the roof manually?
I have tried disconnecting the Bowden cable
But cannot twist the 2 handles as I think you are supposed to.

If the two handles your are turning are black, they just lower or raise the parcel shelf, it must be in the lower postion for the roof to work, the Bowden cable has a red handle and is tight up against the top of the boot , iirc you pull the red handle twist 90 degree and the it should go back in

Yes I have released the Bowden cable but the two handles do not release. They turn against resistance but return to original position.

I would guess the shelf is down already otherwise the roof wouldnt have dropped originally. The resistance on the shelf knobs is because you are trying to lift against the roof thats sat on it.
To start with, You need to unlatch the roof from the rear bulkhead, pull the red hoop and manually get the roof atleast to the half way point and then see if the buttons will operate in either direction

Have a look at this YouTube video
From memory the two black handles mirror each other as apposed to both rotating the same way

Where in the country are you located, as it might worth seeing if your near one of several roof experts on here

I've never raised my parcel shelf so cant fully say without checking but it looks like yours might be in the up position and that would stop your roof moving.. you turn the 2 dials inwards 90 degrees so the shelf lowers

It also sounds like your hydraulic valve is stuck, which is why you cant pull it out of the boot then. Once its pressed in the roof should be easily managable by one person.

Look at contacting your nearest roof Guru to solve and relocate the motor. Although I believe you are in the Cambridge area, which is a distance from most ?
