Roof Problem but Different

I've searched everywhere but I haven't seen this problem described yet so I don't think it's a repeat.

When closing, the roof will stop half-way. The close button will then flash as though faulted. Sometimes (not always) if I hold the button it will move about 1" then stop again, hold for another 30sec and it might move another inch. On occasion, if I press open when half closed it will return to fully open; sometimes it will do nothing. If I manually close the roof the close remains faulted and I need to manually close the roof locks. If I wait an hour or so the button stops flashing and the open button will work fine for the full range of motion.

Things I've checked:
- Hydraulic motor replaced 1yr ago; it works great
- All plug-in connections are tight
- Not the cargo micro-switch (it works and this is a close issue)
- I checked the hall sensor for closed, tried moving it and completely removing with the same results it so I assume that is not causing the issue
- I don't believe I can access the other hall sensor without removing the roof
- I have a cheap OBDII reader but it only reads the ECU which has zero faults; not sure how to access the roof module

Next step is to pull the roof, but aside from visible frayed wires causing a ground short I'm not sure what to look for. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a known root cause?? Any suggestion is appreciated.

I have a 2003 2.5.
 
Could be something as simple as mine was, I had similar issue.
One broken wire in the loom in the top of the roof itself, yours could just be making contact every now and then.
With the loom having to keep bending/moving as the roof goes up and down, eventually something has to give, the wires are very thin, just like telephone cable.
If you get it on a machine and this fault comes up, that will be your problem.

CVM Switch, cowl panel locked, short circuit to ground
CVM Switch, cowl panel unlocked, short circuit to ground

Hope this is all it is.
 
This sounds like an electrical issue, having had the roof motor replaced I suspect you cable a cable rub somewhere causing a short .

Yep, the loom/cable in the roof runs down the passenger side and with it going up and down many times wires eventually get a kink in them and snap as they are so thin.
 
Thanks. I'm pulling the roof tomorrow so hopefully that's all it is. I don't really want to order any new switches or control module.
