Roof operation stops halfway

Or worse the bloody rear lights?!

Winner winner.

Yep, technician thinks seals have gone around both rear clusters, that is the only place he could see leaking from his water testing. So I am getting two new clusters as well as a new pump.

I find it staggering this story hasn't ended with the e85. Put the pump somewhere it can't get wet, like in a sump!

+1. More worrying that water form the rear lights can even get to the pump. Does not bode well if you have been through a few sets of rear clusters.

Just been out to check mine.. Torch in hand. Had me paranoid.

All looks well, dry. Interestingly you must have had a lot of water in there as I note the battery and pump are on a suspended deck to intentionally hold it away from a wet sump like situation.

Does the carpet just lift up so you can see this pump as I'm going out to have a look at mine as I had the car washed Saturday I'm wondering if I have water ingress?

Just checked mine, bone dry phew!

As Maniac said you must have had a lot of water in there to reach the pump!

Its not carpet. Lift the floor cover up, then inside a foam box/wrapper is the pump. Just put your hand under the pump and feel about. Should be nice and dry.

Car taken in this morning, had a phone call at 5pm to say that they need to keep it as they are running more diagnostics (Tech talk for they don't have a clue what's wrong) asked them this morning to check repair history of this car to see if previous owner had ever had issues with the roof, non shown, just a new indicator bulb and normal servicing, I have a feeling a 'reject' slip will be going in soon, pity as I really like this car but I have had this roof issue from day one and was assured it had been fixed on the 2nd visit.

I was given a '63 plate 520D GT running on 20" rims as a loaner, have to say impressed with that lovely interior and extremely comfortable I have a F11 520D Tourer and was considering changing to a F10 but this GT is a contender.

Just got car back, problem traced to a faulty micro switch (though last time it was the sensors) all done under warranty, so happy days all seems well............ :driving: the Z again :)

Right, so after a 4 day extended test drive of a 114i I finally got the zed back today with new pump and 2 new rear clusters FOC. BMW UK took their time with the claim, at first saying "oh because it is water ingress it isn't covered" to which I then said get stuffed, show me in the T&C's of the AUC warranty where it says that.

Roof now opens like a dream.

Well done that's exactly the line I take. Bad design leading to water ingress is not our fault, we didn't pour a kettle of water in there!

Hi ive noticed my roof operation stops halfway and i have to
repress the roof button for it to finish the operation.
Anyone else had this?

Regarding my original posting Above I took my Zed down to the dealer today
They said it's either a faulty Hall sensor or faulty wiring. They are not sure which so would have to replace the Hall sensor and take it from there.
To supply and fit a new Hall sensor they want £81. I've just seen one on ebay for a £10!

I'm tempted to fit it myself if I can find the location of the sensor. Does anyone know ?
Cheers
Matt

Fitting yourself might not go to plan as there will need to be a fault code deleted / reset at some point and you'll be needing to disconnect the battery and all sorts, spells possible electrical disaster.

Best bet is supply the part and get a local garage to fit at non-dealer labour costs!

Garage fitted a new sensor but didn't cure the fault, so their next line of inquiry is faulty wiring...

My roof seems to work fully..SOMETIMES….other times when shutting it the rear glass part won't come down from the roof and i have to try a few times…also even when the roof is fully shut…i sometimes get the warning display and bongs as I'm driving along and the windows won't operate while this is happening…..

My roof issue is now fixed: BMW had ordered the wrong sensor, so they now ordered the right one and the roof now works fine

However, I now find my recently purchased Smarttop doesn't work properly, I am speaking to tech support later today...

That's exactly what I had, after changing the sensors which didn't cure it, it was traced to a faulty micro switch and it's been fine ever since.

What dealers did you use?
