I'm finding that my roof won't always open with the remote . It's ok when done from the switch In the car albeit the green light doesn't show when it's in lowering mode .
Any ideas?.

Hmm strange, like a few others I have had roof problems but not from the remote ,although I didn't try the remote when I had my issues .I had my roof opening/closing issues fixed by an independant roof specialist in Dorking don't know where you are, but a call to him may provide some answers. Given your other post I think you need to look at your battery and the charge it is holding.

Putting the roof down with the remote uses power and will increase the drain on the battery. If it's already low then it will not allow it. Do you make short trips and or not drive it much? I would suggest that if your not using the car that often or if the charge is low due to short trips and the altinator not having time to boost the battery that you start the car and lower the roof that way.

If you do need a new battery and it is replaced or just given a decent charge and these issues still persist then I'd seek advice from BMW or another specialist.

I had the same problem. Could not fold down the roof with the remote control! Previously if worked fine till the day it was dead. After some
thinking I connected my CEYEK charger and it took good 24 hours to charge full. Now wintertime I do not use the Z4 very much and a few
times I have folded down the roof that overtime drain the battery. So, only fold down when the engine is running/charging.
But I wonder if anyone can help! Does it require COMFORT OPENING to close the roof with the remote control?

Firstly welcome to the site.

I would always recommend if you don't use the car much and don't have it on a trickle charger to only lower the roof when the engine is running to stop too much draw from the battery.

However you need comfort access to raise the roof with the fob. If you don't have comfort access then you can purchase a 'smarttop' which will allow this function along with a host of others. Not sure how old your car is but if it's prior to 2012 the roof would not open or close at speed or whilst the car is in motion and by adding this unit you can also do this.

Hi all ,well I have this problem as well, worked fine end of last year when I used remote to open roof, now it does not, charged up the battery with my CTEK last night but still no roof movement. So what is this comfort opening ,is it standard on the e89 ,mine is a 59 plate, roof opens fine with the buttons in car. This Smart Top thing ,is it good and worth having done and how much will it cost me.Does anyone in Essex do this work.I know lots of questions but I do need to know .Thanks.
