Roof opening from key

Well, just after I bought my E85 I was delighted to find that a previous owner had made the roof open from the key. I even ran into the house and told my wife. 8) But after disconnecting the battery to do some work much to my annoyance it stopped doing it. :( It would vibrate but not move. Well today a year later I tried it again and guess what, it worked. So happy. :D Have to hold the key really close and it was the passenger side but don't care. :driving:

Good result! I believe Carly allows you to do all the fun reprogramming / programming. I am intending to buy one to do exactly this and a few other tweaks like locking the doors after ten seconds if getting in the car, hopefully getting the Sport button to come on automatically, fully lower the door windows rather than halfway and stop the delay of being able to raise / lower the windows, as well as fault code checking and reset.

Anyone got a Carly to try any of this out / willing to share / help if I drive to you?

He also made the car beep really loudly every time I lock it. Not great last thing at night, I would avoid that one if I was you :D

Sport Button mod needs an interface PCB Orion on here made one up https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120584 and was selling them on z4mods.co.uk but the domain seems to have lapsed so not sure if he is still making them.

The open the roof with the key thing in Carly is good but sometimes it makes you look a bit like a bell if you know what I mean. I have found there is a technique to opening the roof with the key not sure if its just my car. You have to do it from locked, press and hold the unlock button. BUT you need to be much closer to the car than if you were just opening it. If you are on the cusp of the signal range then the roof will stop half way through and then you have to do it from inside of the car. I find you also have to time the walking pace or you get to your car before the roof is fully opened and you have to do the hold the button get in the car thing.

I never use the close the roof with the key thing as it is pretty annoying to stand there holding the button waiting for the roof to do its thing and the windows. I just use the button in the car and do it normally.

I have no experience in the gap tech module but I see peeps raving about that on here, one touch roof up/down with the key and some other fun things, but that does mean splicing in an additional box into the roof wiring to take over the roof control.

For someone with Carly have a skim through this thread or make a post with your location asking if anyone is nearby. Im in South Birmingham and Worcester and have Carly.

I would definitely recomment the gap tech RCH+ module. after a year of holding the keyfob, the module just made sense. Very minimal effort tapping into the existing wires with the included clips. This also also helped me with the battery of my keyfob, holding the button down seems to drain it a bit faster than i would like

if anybody is near Sale Cheshire at any time ive got a carly and they can use it for what its worth
they take £130 a year out of my bank so somebody might aswel use it

Oh man now I have something else to buy for my car :)
