Opening roof with the key.

It is a safety related issue to stop fingers getting caught. The roof motor is powerful to move all that metal so could easily do nasty things to little fingers. There's no back-off control like you get on windows. It's all software controlled so I suspect that in some territories it is an allowed option but is disabled in the litigious countries.

To open, just keep the button on the key-fob pressed.

I had no idea you could open the roof with the fob! How do you do that then? Not sure I need to but I suppose it looks good. My fob has to be inserted in the dashboard slot to make anything work so maybe later cars don't have this facility ... :?

Just hold down your unlock button on the key fob. :)

If all else fails read the handbook, eh? ...

I did. Well, skimmed it, anyway. But missed that by "hardtop" the Germans mean 'folding roof'. :)

Comfort access or not - im sure none of them close without the button in the car being pressed - I was told that a child had his fingers trapped when the roof Assy closed on him.

My physical and digital copies of the owner's manual disagree with you, so I'm sure they must :P

Perhaps (although very unlikely) they removed this feature between my 2013 LCI and your (2016?) one?

I stand corrected! :D

Hey,

So. Just got a z4, I will do an intro with pictures soon. But i saw this happen when i picked the car up. Roof down with a key press, but i cant get it to work for me.

I Press and hold. I hear a "clunk" noise like something was about to start, but then nothing. Doesn't matter how long I press for.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Have you got the luggage protector clicked into place in the boot?

Pull the luggage protector back all the way hard, slam it down hard, make sure the boot is shut and try again.

Its maybe a better idea to be careful with this part as the hinges have been known to break so slamming it down hard is a bad idea.
It does not need slammed, it just needs to be located properly and pressed into place.

The room is closing fine when i am in the car. Wouldn't that also not work if it was the luggage protector ? I only want it really to show off. The sun is coming out more regularly and just about time for posing... 😜

You're right, of course. That said, the two I've tried needed to be "pressed" firmly.
