Roof not folding correctly: SOLVED

Wow, that’s really helpful. Thanks. It doesn’t seem like the side flaps actually do anything except maybe stop things rolling off the shelf (if you actually used it as a shelf)

You can’t really use it even as a shelf, hard to access, it’t quite brittle, rattles and then you’d forget having items on it when opening the roof. Those flaps dont seem to have any real function, except hiding the clips.

So I tried taping down the flats but too dusty so I removed the shelf totally, rigged the micro switch, and operated the roof hoping it would go down smoothly. It still makes a horrible clunk and it doesn’t sit down fully. The hydraulic pipes were changed on Friday and this is the first the roof has been operated in 5 years. Ross said they have to raise the roof to get to the pipes so it’s possible the roof isn’t sitting back quite right. Or it may be that something has happened after 5 years of not using it.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I then put the shelf back in in case it’s needed to suppprt the roof but same thing. Doesn’t seem to sit down fully and as it’s catching as it drops seems it’s slightly high somewhere or something

I’ve oiled everything up and I think it might be slightly better. The roof is quite crusty as well so going to give it a good clean in case the fabric is stopping it somehow through reduced flexibility or something. It doesn’t go down quite enough to hit the latch but with a push will click shut

Is the fabric folding the right way? If the edges fold inwards instead of outwards it creates an extra layer of fold which is enough to stop it going the whole way down.
Take a look at my photos in this thread and it should explain what I mean.

Just checked this. I think it’s folding correctly. Difficulty to tell if you’re not used to it 😬

I have noticed there are a couple of broken clips that I have no idea what they actually do?

OK, for some reason I can't copy your pics to mark them up, but in both those last two you can see a point where the edge of the roof makes a 90 degree angle. Just forward of that you can make out a triangle stating to form in the material.
Watch this triangle and make sure it remains outwards and doesn't fold in on itself.

Jackboy, I just checked my roof and it doesn't have those clips at all so no idea what they are for but they must not be essential for the working of the roof.

Ok, so this is showing as solved but now it actually is solved so I’ve come back to update! I never resolved this so my only option was to put the roof down half way then using my hand push the window bit down where it was getting stuck then put the roof down the rest of the way. I tried lots of different things but nothing worked then suddenly at the weekend I saw what the problem was. It started when it went in to have the roof motor pipes replaced. They had put the little boot / shelf bit into the raised position to get more access so the roof should not have worked but the micro switch must be broken because the roof was still operating. The space the roof folds down into was reduced I guess so it was jamming.

So the problem was the roof shelf bit was in the up position and the micro switch must be broken allowing the roof to operate with the boot shelf up.

Thanks for all the help.
