Roof noise

Has anyone else's roof started to sound as if it's free falling for the last inch when it locates in the boot? Mine has started dropping in with a right clunk for the last inch or so. Does anyone elses do this or always done this?
 
I have a similar problem, but in another position. When I put the roof up the window section drops the last couple of cms. with a 'clunk'.
I haven't had the car long, so didn't think anything of it until I read this post. I'm now a little concerned, is this normal, or do I need to get anything done about it?
 
Hi Carol, yes I had this yesterday but have noticed it before, I couldn't remember if it was when the roof was going down or up, I think when going up and there was a loudish thunk, dont think its too much too worry about as its bound the thunk abit when coming into contact with the header rail or when dropping into the boot. Will keep my eye on it, might try it later and keep an ear out.

Okay mine drops the last few cm as the roof (not the boot lid) fully retracts into the boot, due to the mechanical nature of the roof, I think this is unavoidable and normal.
 
From memory.....

Mine clunks when closing the roof and it hits the top of the windscreen, cos I always think I wouldn't want my hand in their! Haven't noticed when its dropping into the boot, but the boot closing makes a creaking noise.
 
Well I've found out why it's doing this. Regulars will have knowledge of my parking sensor debacle.
Just discovered the f**king idiots have put the rear beeper on the side of the boot. They've pulled the lining away from the side and stuck it on the body. The lining is now sticking out by about 2 inches and the roof gets caught on it, drags it down then breaks free and clunks down hard when it gets free.
I will get some pics on tomorrow.
I'm trying to think of some words to say to express how I feel about this.........
I'll get back to you.

:x Unbelievable, has it been been making the clunk noise since the parking sensors were fitted?

I've not had the roof down much because of the rain but yeah, I noticed this about that time then kept forgetting about it. It did it again this morning and investigated and found out its the lining. It actually stops the roof from locating in the boot for a couple of seconds.
 
Mine only drops onto the top of the windscreen from about a inch up, always done it and it seems normal, Moe ammo for you tho, if they had fitted oem, they would of had the oem ecu in the correct place so no roof issues

Exactly. It's fine when it closes, normal operation,clunks a bit and the the locking mechanism whirrs, it's just the opening.
I'm going to go take some pics and video in a minute. Bloody cowboys.
 
My car does that too, slams a bit too hard on the boot lid when closing, bit annoying lol. But have heard it with two other Z's as well when test driving.
