Just put roof down and noticed it was a bit slow...subsequent attempts got slower and slower until it would barely get itself going. Windows etc all do usual thing and there is clearly power getting to it. Shall I get me spanners?

) so take note of them, or number the connector halves with a permanent marker before they are separated, and the other thing is that the new motor can have the hydraulic connections marked a different way round to the old one. If you swap the hoses to match the numbering, it will work the wrong way til it reaches its limits and then won't go back. You will end up taking the roof out again. You must swap hose positions like for like, and just ignore any stamped numbering on the pumps.
