Roof motor not working - pump failure or electrics?

Hi guys.
My first post.
Hello to everyone.....

I also seam to have a problem with my roof.
As everyone says, opens about 2-3inches then the motor continues to buzz.
If I give a gentle push it opens, but does not close fully.
The windows do not rise back up.

But.......
When I close the roof, no problems.
I have checked the micro switch all good, don't think it would open at all if that was faulty.
I have lubricated all I can get to.
That worked for 2 openings.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Fjrman - welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear of your problem. Shipkiller on this site is the expert of roof proplems so worth a quick search of his posts. What age is your Zed?

Well I seam to have sorted this.
I think.......!
If I press open roof button the roof does not open properly.
If I then close the roof.
Then press open all is good.

Is there a memory or something I can reset, anyone know of?

Thanks in advance.

Another massive shout out to Ash - registered just to sing the guy's praises! Dead cheap, nice chap and sorted my '04 Z4 in a day for same price as above. LEDGE :D

Also, cheers to the other posters who recommended - BMW were taking the piss with their quotes and I'd never have found him if it wasn't for this forum :)

Hey guys, I am getting ready to take the plunge and replace my softop motor. After taking off my hardtop this winter I have the red indicator.

My windows go down/up and the front latch works but no noise or movement from the motor what so ever. Just wanted to clarify a few things:

1) is the repair kit worth buying?

2) Should I remove the drain plug from the motor comparment?

3) how to prevent water from pooling again in the future....

Thanks in advance

The hood shelf was in the correct position unfortunately...what switch are you talking about?
behind the shelf ....turn the knobs to move the shelf up then you can see it,,,,,, in work me when i get home i,ll take a photo of it and send it to you

I searched it and found the switch. Moved the shelf up and down several times and nothing....The switch is in place and I can see the metal tab that ShipKiller described. Seems to be in place and working.... :(

i think it,s something to do with the hard top set up....something is telling the car that the hard top is still in place that,s y you r getting the yellow/red light on

Problems, problems, problems.....

I was able to get the roof w/new motor installed today. I attempted to lower the roof AND>>>>>

The windows went down as needed
The latch released from the windshield
I can hear the new motor turning as should
AND NOTHING!!!!!!

I checked the trunk switch, the tray table, the bowden cable....I am stuck and NEED HELP :(

The bowden cable seems to working properly. Bc when engaged the roof opens smoothly and when in non bypass position the roof will open 1/4 of the way and you meet resistance.

I am by far open to suggestions.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Hi I have just changed the roof motor and hydro unit on my z4, thanks to shopkillaz step by step, but put it all back together and I can hear the motor working but the roof dosnt move, why could this be? It's not the micro switch in back as I've checked that and like I said I can here the motor working, could this be cause of the hydralic pipes being undone and changed over to new hydro unit?? Please can someone help me!!!!

Hello everyone, any advice on my 2003 Z4 roof motor replacement.
First I want to thank ship killer for his work through, saved me a lot of money. This guy deserves and Knighthood
Basically I have removed the roof and roof motor/pump from my car, I was wondering if its worth buying a hydraulic repair kit to get some new copper washers or would reusing the old ones be fine.
Also has anyone filled the pump with hydraulic fluid, I do not want to under fill or over fill it, and I don't know what level I need to fill to with the roof in the (half way up position).
Would I have to bleed the system or will it self bleed over time. thank you for any replies in advance

There's a red tab you pull which disengages the pump from the motor have you checked that?
