roof motor in the boot

Well done Tug,
Shame I did mine a while ago with your help,
When mine fails again, if it does because I put in plenty of extra drain holes when I repaired mine, I will be talking to you again about the new in boot mod it looks excellent.
Regards
Neil

Cheers all, tug.

Very neat indeed! I can well see any number of Z's going the same way.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Nice work Tug, very neat, if mine goes again I'll be doing this for sure, though I was also considering some sort of mod. that would stop water getting into the housing as well. I just never seem to have enough time these days... :)

Thanks Geo, but i need to thank you for your brilliant post which got me started on the project in the first place so, Cheers mate,

Cheers to all for your nice comments also. :)

this looks a really good idea! would it leave both side drains empty and easy to clean then? (drivers side is easy to clean but passenger side isn't, with no motor in there will it be the same as drivers side, or the big plastic housing still be there and in the way of cleaning?)

i know where im going if my motor fails!

Hi JINGLE, the motor side is now empty making it as easy as the drivers side to clean. Shining a torch down there the drain hole is just visible and accessible. The motor housing/soundproofing can be discarded or sent to fleabay. :D

Cheers, tug.

Posted as firstly, great work!

Secondly, incase I need to visit you in the future!

Great skills sir.

This is awesome! Well done mate, that's a fantastic effort.

Definitely a market for this service in the UK, although I bet it takes a fair few hours to remove and refit the roof and the other bits.

Thanks both, and your welcome, i have done the roof job that many times now i can have the roof safely out of the zed and roof motor disassembled in less than a hour. 8)

The whole job would be done in less than three.

Cheers, tug.

Hi Tug, this looks like a great mod to do on the Z, my roof works great and long may it last, but this fix looks like the way to go if or when the motor fails, so will this be a service you would want to do on other Z's in the future, Loughborough is not to far to have this done if you do.

Looks awesome tug well done!

How much would you charge to do this? I'm tempted to get mine done just to pre-empt any future failure and as Loughborough isn't too far from me.

Yes i have moved the motor for a few now, seems that there is quite a demand :)

Now i cannot do the job without taking the roof off completely. but it doesn't take long. Also i haven't sorted a garage space just yet so i do the job in the open so it has to be a nice day, it as never been a problem and folks i have worked for are fine with that.

The price i charge is £200 which i consider reasonable as other folks charge a lot more. If i could do it without removing the roof then it would be a lot less. Unfortunately i can't work that one out yet! :idunno:

So, if you would like me to do it for you i would be only too pleased to help you out.

Cheers, tug.
