Hi folks,
I just wanted to let you know of my recent experience having my roof motor replaced.
I have my Z4 under BMW comprehensive insured warranty and when my roof motor failed back in November last year I took it to a BMW dealership.
The familiar scenario of not being able to diagnose the problem without removing the roof raised its ugly head and with needing the car I decided to go ahead. Water damage was indeed diagnosed and I asked for the dealership to put in for a warranty claim or a goodwill gesture and that was flatly refused by the warranty manager as "BMW don't pay out for water damage" and was subsequently charged £842 to replace the motor, housing and wire loom.
I decided to bypass the dealership completely and with the help of Which Legal Services, approached BMW Insured Warranty directly. BMW Insured Warranty refused accept the claim.
I wrote back to BMW Insured Warranty rejecting their reasons for refusing the claim and sent a copy with a covering letter to BMW Customer Services.
BMW Customer Services contacted me a week or so later kindly agreeing to reimburse me in full as a goodwill gesture and although it took a further two weeks to get the money from the dealership I'm pleased to say this restores my faith in the company and will ensure that I remain a BMW customer in the future.
I don't want to identify the dealership as I feel this situation doesn't reflect the normal quality of service I receive and I'm generally pleased with them. The quality of service and the prices are better than other dealerships I've used in the past and I intend using them in the future.
A big thanks to the forum members and Which Legal Services (no I don't work for them) for helping resolve this in a positive way.
As a side note, as part of my warranty I have the assistance package and I've had BMW Assistance out on three separate occasions now, the last visit to replace a failed coil pack and I have had nothing but excellent service from them.
Dave
