Roof Issues

Hi all,

Seems the curse has struck and I’m struggling to fix it!

When i press the open button the electric latching motor unlocks the roof, hydraulic motor switches on for a brief second but the roof doesn’t move. Then the light in the centre console flashes red and no movement from there. I have to manually relatch the roof (although if I start the process manually sometimes it will re latch from pressing the close button).

What I’ve done so far:
  • Taken the car to bigwinn (very grateful for all the help so far - thank you!!!) to check the motor (relocated by previous owner) - believe motor is good, and as fires up initially and showed intermittent signal to fire, we thought it was wiring/sensor issue.
  • Checked the loom above passenger window (stripped back armour cabling) and found no breaks/nicks in the accessible section, see photos
  • Cycled the roof a few times manually, roof won’t close from the button when manually opened, no lights no movement - only ever get action from fully closed position
  • Checked the micro switch for parcel shelf, also looked fine and light was red rather than orange, however when reading the data stream on code reader, boot shelf switches from “bottom” to “not at bottom” after unlatching, but we could see it working on screen as we toggled manually.

So I’m slightly stumped, does anybody have any idea? Issues started after leaving the boot slightly opened, so was wet although dried out when I noticed (may be red herring!)

I’ve got a creator 310+ code reader, but not fully sure what menus/sections/sensors I should be looking at to try to diagnose, I’ve got a number of photos before during & after pressing the open button of screen but I have plenty more of the other screens before/after if useful (different menu sections, will attach in second post) - hope they may be useful for those more technically minded than me!

Really appreciate any help, have parents tools and garage until Monday, so happy to try any ideas from the experts!

Happy new year all! Harry

After “opening”…

I’m sure I’m missing some menus, so please shout if there is a particular sensor/screen that is useful to scout out and check for changes during “opening”

Does the motor run ok if you put power straight to it? Not trying to run then seizing?

I believe there’s a hall sensor that tells the roof it’s fully down to switch off the motor. Is that perhaps telling the roof it’s down already?
Tried a new control module?

Also, have you tried taking wiggling the parcel shelf just in case the initial movement is enough to upset the microswitch

Cheers all,

Tried the parcel shelf (manually held down switch while pressing and no luck).

Decided to take the battery off for a few hours… the button then rocked the latch open/closed a few times, before doing a full open/close cycle… thought the old hard reboot fixed it… tried again after putting all the tools away and left with the same issue (unlatch, short burst of hydraulic motor nothing and flashing light)…. :(

Took battery off again for 10mins, similar to before with latch/unlatch then roof got half way down and stopped, red flashing light.

I’m guessing this means it’s probably ECU/dodgy sensor, but given it did a full cycle, then stopped half way I am leaning to ECU due to the inconsistency…

Going to pick up a spare ECU from Bigwinn and try that.

Please shout if the symptoms would point you in another other directions!

HNY!

With thanks to you all, especially bigwinn, roof now working.

Replacement ECU was the fix!

Goes without saying this forum is what make these cars great to own, wish I could buy you all a beer!

Morris now back in the garage, a little wetter (and no doubt rustier) than 2 days ago! 915C1B94-10E0-41BB-9382-0D3F19633FA8.jpeg

That’s superb news!

And a learn for me as I’ve never had a module be the root cause of the problem

Every day is a school day as they say
