Roof cubby thingy

Not sure what its called but in the roof between the driver and passenger there is a little pouch that drops down to open. I think [ref]Mr Tidy[/ref] told me it was a sunglasses pouch or some such. Well I noticed the other day getting into the car that it was open and no amount of poking and prodding would get it to stay closed.

Are there any known fixes or improvements to sort out that little pocket and get it to close properly?

....
I think I have just found the parts on realoem

I'll have to look tonight to see if there are the 2 clips it mentions. Maybe someone has come up with an alternative method that does not fail?

Those two clips that it mentions are for holding up the headlining. Part no. 3 goes into the metal of the roof at the rear of the car, and then number 6 clips into that. Together, they stop the headliner from sagging in the middle at the back (the front is held up by the sun visors).

Sadly, neither will be relevant to fixing the sunglasses tray. Mine also pops open - I was going to blutak it shut for now, but have seen people try to fix them online, but I don't know if the parts are still available (all eBay links that have since expired).

[ref]TriggerFish[/ref], thanks for the info. I did see one discussion on this forum with a couple of ebay links but they were long expired. I was hoping with so many 3d printers out there perhaps someone had come up with a fix of some sort.
Maybe something could be achieved with a couple of magnets?

TBF I usually describe it as the sunglasses ejector, because that's what it tends to do!

It looks like you can't just buy a new catch but need the whole glasses tray - Part No. 4 on the realoem diagram.

Roughly £200 if you go down the replacement route! https://www.sytnerstevenagebmwparts.co.uk/p/132162411/51443427240.html

Ouch. :o

Just a thought but Liam22 and Wursle both have roll-cages in their Coupes so might have one they don't need, unless you can find one at a breaker like Quarry Motors.

My E46 had a similar cubby in the centre console but it has a different part number on realoem. Buy I wonder if the catch might be the same?
