Romantic day trip short drive from London - any ideas?

I need an idea for next Fri please that doesn't involve sitting in loads of traffic but somewhere farther afield than Greater London. I thought of Brighton but the crowds and traffic not appealing. Suggestions appreciated.

If the weather's good and you fancy a trip to the seaside, Rye in East Sussex is very nice and you can drop over to Camber Sands to lie on the beach or over to Battle for a bit of 1066 nostalgia

I have read about Rye, might be an idea. What's the parking situation like?

Eastbourne

Really?
I thought of Seven sisters cliffs, that's not far from Eastbourne I think.

I really liked Eastbourne the couple of times I've been there, like a more upmarket version of Blackpool 8)

Weymouth is suprisingly nice too, although may be a bit further afield?

Parking only at the bottom of the hill. No parking in the centre at all.

You should be able to park without problems and, once you're parked up, you tend to walk around Rye rather than drive

This shows the car parks

This has lots of info on Rye and the surrounding area

Haha don't get me wrong, I love Blackpool, i'm currently seeing a lass from there so it definitely has its perks! Just think the whole town could do with a good jetwash/paint/shotblast/tsunami

Spent a day or two in Rye last summer, lovely little place. Didn't have any problems with public carparks.

Cambridge is great for a romantic day out. Punting would be great if the weather holds out.

We were in Cambridge a couple of weekends ago and few of us hired a couple of punts took a bit of a picnic and a few bottles of champers, great laugh but bit hard work for the one doing punting and bit manic on some parts of the river.if you hire punt and a punter it will be a bit more relaxing and enjoyable

The Cotswolds is a big area covering a large part of Gloucestershire. It's lovely here and about 90mins to 2hrs drive from where you are.
