Your other option is to spray paint them black. I would suggest painting them while on the car to prevent breaking the plastic tabs. Get some of the large plastic tarp sheets that painters use and mask off the entire area (at least 3 or 4 feet surrounding). Lightly sand the plastic covers with 800-1000 grit sandpaper, prime, then spray with flat black paint.
I sprayed mine black over 2 years ago, and since then have had no problems with chipping or fading. Looks much better in black IMO. Here was the end result:
