Last week I aquired Zed # 25 and the eagle eyed among you will notice that under all that dirt it's black.

You no doubt will also recognise (despite it being de-badged) that it's a 3.0si E86 - what you probably won't immediately realise is that it's one of the rarest 3.0si coupes in the UK.

Rather than me provide the evidence to support my claim I thought we could play a little game of assumptive reasoning

I'm happy to provide you with a VIN # (LJ50131) to help your investigations and obviously won't be offended if you attest that my claims are utter nonsense.

Best response wins a set of dustcaps

And @bigwinn is barred from playing due to the fact he's had his dirty orange hands all over it already

Is it rare because it survived Stuart's attentions?
Or because it only has three hub centres?

Cheeky tw4t

The earth points were all in good order

It looks like it's the only Manual Schwarz 2 Coupe with black leather and brushed aluminium trim that came to the UK.

LJ is an unusual prefix too!

No nowt to do with the wheels - I'd left the centres off for the trip to Stuarts becuase I knew the wheels were coming off and they're a right faff to fit / remove.

Tbh I'm not a big fan of aftermarket wheels but they are quite nice even if a bit aggressive - 8.5j ET35 front & 9.5j ET 30 rear.

There Rays Engineering Japanese forged wheels - if you're interested in that sort of stuff they have a very impressive 10 tonne press in their factory in Japan - each wheel is about half the weight of the OEM equivalent

Is it rare because of the repeaters/reflectors/whatever they are on the front wheel arches?

Out of curiosity, what is being done in the photo with the orange gloves?

I know.....
It's rare because it's one of the very few Z3s or Z4s that Garrie hasn't owned before. :D

Either that, or it's the only 4WD one made? :?

I’m guessing it’s just a boring old standard tin top but he’s trying to make himself feel a bit better. :poke:

It's the only BMW ever painted in Sapphire Black as opposed to Black Sapphire?

No, like I said yesterday it's Schwarz 2 which seems to be a different colour.

Spot on! Apparently one of only 6 coupes that came to the UK in Jet Black 668 or Schwarz 2 as its officially known - making it the rarest colour a UK E86 was available in.

And there was me thinking it was just another black coupe not realising it deserved a place near the top of the rare colour register.

Anyway if you send me your details I'll get the dustcaps sent out - did I mention that the winner has to cover P&P costs?

You never explained the Ts & Cs though Garrie, so I'll pass unless you go to Zedfest! :D

Your car is actually the only manual Coupe in Schwarz2 with black seats and brushed aluminium trim that came to the UK.

There is a reason why 'rare' colours are rare.
Presumably 'jet black', being a solid colour, was a cheaper option (or free) at ordering time? :?

Metallic paint was standard on facelifts, which may explain why hardly anyone wanted Jet Black!
