roadkill

got this stretch of road near me on the way to watergate, about amile long that is mainly tree covered, it runs through an estate that hosts shoots and is notorious for roadkill. had been for a quick blast to check the surf and was coming back through the estate , saw a pheasant on the road ahead, was travelling about 55 ish, thought he was on the move so eased off , then realised he wasnt moving very much slowed more, still expecting it to move, then i realised he was going to return the way he was going first, too late i hit him, it was dark when i got home so havent checked for damage, bit of a thump but he went under and came out the back, will check front bumper in the morning. not the brightest of birds, he probably would have preferred to have been shot with the rest of his mates. :tumbleweed:

They are the stupidest birds and the bane of my life this time of year. Over 20 of the stupid things in my way yesterday.

Probably some damage caused

Bit like the squirrel I hit in my 1er that didn't have the decency to die. I went back for my grill but the bugger was nowhere to be seen.

In my old Freelander a car in front flicked half a dead pheasant up and it smacked against my grille and stuck there.
Its one wing was flapping up and down in the wind like a gruesome bonnet mascot.

well dodgy, not long ago my daughter was working at the scarlet at mawgan porth , mad scot the chef was giving her a lift home and they hit a young deer ! broken headlmp and a dead dear

no but he did check out the goose barnacles that washed up on the beach attatched to a bouy, like something out of doctor who !! google them and see for yourself, wierd !!

I hit a feral dog in Basrah doing north of 80mph in a GMC pickup. Dog turned to a red mist but the bumper disappeared too! He had 4 lanes to choose from. He chose wrong.

Pretty awesome lesson for the other pheasants, though.

Once picked up a rabbits head on the lower grill.
Got a pigeon that hit the time trial bike I was carrying upright on the roof on the way to the national championships. Had to pick the bits off before I raced.
Was in a mates car when he hit a full grown red deer at around 60. Car was literally destroyed!
On a slightly bizarre note, another friend crashed his motorbike and ended up in hospital after hitting a hapless badger and collecting the car coming the other way.. Ouch. Although he did meet his future wife there as she spent a few weeks looking after him. So it wasn't all bad. He had lots of injuries and yes he still rides.

First day of picking up the zed on my inaugural drive a pigeon flew down right under my near side wheel.
It popped.
The sound was like an empty crisp packet being blown up and burst open. It was gross.

A pigeon kindly walked in front of me in the Z doing around 70mph. When I got to my mum and dads they came ruining out in a panick, there was blood all over the front of the car.

My mum kindly picked the remaining bits out of the grill/radiator and the cats ALWAYS go and have a good sniff around the front end since - it was around 2 years ago!

A friend hit a pheasant in an imprezza. It went through the grill with just its feet remaining outside and then cooked in the engine bay

I killed a rabbit a couple of weeks back driving Immie. It made a hell of a thwack when it hit, but no damage at all.

Hit a pheasant in my westy doing 60 ... It fucked the nose cone, lots of dents on the rad, screwed the alternator as it filled with feathers.... And I left 4 parrallel lines on the road ... Dumb ass bird

Now I've got that image in my head ....
:tumbleweed: Oh the Horror !

I've hit loads of animals around here, downside of country living - regularly hit pigeons, stupid birds roost on the roads round here and don't move in the mornings, pop and a cloud of feathers later..... . Hit a deer a couple of years back in the wife's car, wrecked the headlight, wing and bumper (there were 7 of them bolting across the road, it was like a deer slalom, just hit the last one). Rabbit, pheasants, weasels, field rats, hit them all. Not hit a badger yet, came close a few times, but did hit a barn owl that tried to pounce on something whilst I was driving past, went straight through the front grill and did the bonnet flapping thing. Had to "disassemble" that one to get it out, pretty gross.

Worst one was a pigeon though, hit it my old Celica. It went through the lower grill (which popped back into place), and wedged under the front radiator. I checked for it, but couldn't see it there. Drove to the airport, parked up for a week. When I came back, I drove home to the smell of roast chicken, so decided to check. Finally spotted (what I thought was) parts of the bird. Celica's have a difficult to remove bumper, the car was a year old, so took it to the local dealers to ask their help to remove it - said they couldn't get involved due to H&S. Went to my local garage, they assisted and we removed bumper and offending bird - the latter with a broomstick. It fell into the gutter and continued to move - closer inspection showed it was full of maggots ....

So far my score is:

X1 Fox vs Classic Mini SS bumper
X1 bird vs Classic Mini grille - draw, 1 dead bird, 1 dented grille.
X1 Pheasant vs TVR Griffith wheel
X1 Hare vs TVR S3 - thankfully it scampered off as it went right under the middle of the car!
X1 small hedgerow bird vs alpinestars knee slider
X1 small hedgerow bird vs Shoei XR 1100,scratched my visor

Out for a blast on my Harley V rod and hit a big black crow at about 60 mph, it hit the right hand side of the screen which shattered and then hit me hard on my right shoulder. Did not realise what an impact it could make, shook me up a bit and cost me £300 for a new Harley screen  must have been one of the biggest heavy birds I have encountered for some time
