Road Trip / Holiday Ideas

H Guys,

So I am looking for some ideas on where to take Monica (My beautiful ///). A new house purchase means money is tight, and poor old Monica is trying her hardest to help me stay away from putting her to the classifieds...Anyway, I have done Europe many a time in my old 3L, but with the cost of fuel, tolls etc. and a painful restriction on holiday for this coming year, the Med is just not going to happen...so while I still have her, I want to take her some where special. The rules are simple, looking at...

*4-5 Days
*Realistic Millage, its a holiday as well as hoon.
*Somewhere nice for the GF to enjoy when we get there.
*Can be Uk, France, Ireland - within about 500 miles max of Birmingham area...
*Ferries, tolls not a biggy

My ideas are,

Reims
Scotland
Wales
Germany

All and any suggestions welcome, however abstract or boring

Thanks in advance

Chris

I would think Within 500 miles - Scotland would offer some of the more interesting driving - particularly if you drop in and out of the lakes on the way up in at Kendal and back out a Penrith then through the borders and up to Fort William along the Skyfall A82 - you can even tell SWMBO you are taking her to a Bond Location !

Been touring in Scotland a few times on the motorbike , nice roads in the Western Highlands and pick the time right and the roads are quiet , intend to do it in the Z4 this year :D

Stark, I would agree its not the most amazing scenery, but the black forset area has some ok roads, there is a bit of autobahn and if I push the milage a little the weather is not to bad in frieburg / strasbourg (yes i knwo strictly speaking thats france) - plus no tolls if i drive down through germany....It would be nice to get the roof down.

Always fancied a road trip round Ireland .
not managed it as yet as the ferries always seem twice as expensive as the channel crossings + we don't have to pay for accommodation in france
Can recommend La Rochelle on the west coast , easy drive 4/5 hours & well worth it , especially the il de Re

Rule Germany out, the countryside isn't that beautiful, although the cities are interesting

Would disagree there - granted scenery around Ruhr valley way can be a bit industrial, but the Rhine valley, especially Cochem/Kobkenz? Lovely scenery around there. Also second the Black Forest area

Tapatalking...

Schwazwald ! Its what the zed was made for!

There is the "Shauinsland KlassiK" every two years -its a classic car hill climb event and is on my to do list!

+1 for the Schwarzwald area... When you're there, definitely visit Baden-Baden & surroundings... Also Switzerland with its perfect mountain roads is not far away from the southern end of Schwarzwald :-)

Hmmm...a lot of love for the black forest...I am tempted, the thing i am srugling with is going that far, i would find it to much of draw to keep going all the way to the south coast...thinking its time to convince the gf that fuel is more important than a nice bed, time for abit of camping - done the mobile homes a few times, and although not great they do offer excellent value for money and all important cooking facilities - not sure if i could make all the gf would want for a comfy camp in a tent fit in the boot of the zed...

Le mans has crossed my mind, done it many a time before, and although great for the cars and the racing, and of course the beer...its not much of a cultured affair for the other half who has little intrest in motor sport / cars...LM is a lads or a ladette shin dig me thinks!

I don't know what part of Germany that Starks been to but I couldn't disagree more as its a stunningly beautiful country. We've toured in or through every year since 1999 and can't recommend it highly enough.

Yes the Black Forest is beautiful but I'd go for the Eifel mountains. You have the Nurburgring, the countryside and quick access to the Moselle and Rhine valleys. Also Brussels, Liege or Bruges en route.
