+1 for the Schwarzwald area... When you're there, definitely visit Baden-Baden & surroundings... Also Switzerland with its perfect mountain roads is not far away from the southern end of Schwarzwald :-)

This is possibly my plan for later on in the year. I love Germany and always wanted to go to the Black Forest.

I don't know what part of Germany that Starks been to but I couldn't disagree more as its a stunningly beautiful country. We've toured in or through every year since 1999 and can't recommend it highly enough.

Yes the Black Forest is beautiful but I'd go for the Eifel mountains. You have the Nurburgring, the countryside and quick access to the Moselle and Rhine valleys. Also Brussels, Liege or Bruges en route.

Beautiful part of the world, head out through Givet and then through the Ardennes, perhaps a bit of Luxemburg and then into the Eifel region. Cochem and Boppard on the Mosel are very nice and there are many many very old and very quaint German towns in the region.

There's also a really good theme park nearby called Phantasialand, which is well worth a visit if that's your thing.

The Ring is approx 275 miles from Calais and with a little careful planning you can make the drive very enjoyable avoiding lots of Autoroute.

If you go have a look at the Nurburgring, spoil yourself and stay at the Sonnenhof, highly recommended. http://www.sonnenhof-adenau.de/

Our trip is each year is thro the Koblenz area and into Schwazwald - The village of Staufen im Breisgau - Its worth a note that in the village visitors pay a "tourist tax" -Its not a bad news as the Hotel /Campsite issue a ticket for free train and bus travel in the area - Its more than just local travel as well - It covers Baden Wurttemberg and into Basle.

Somewhere nice for the GF to enjoy when we get there.

Yer, maybe not...

Went to Stockholm last august for the first time - in all seriousness one of the nicest cities I've been to.

Interested to monitor suggestions on this thread, been wanting to plan something similar, think the autoban is calling...

Do the autobahn thing while you can! There were bits in the newspapers last year which indicated that some states in Germany wanted to introduce speed limits to the de-restricted sections !

I dont think its an overnight change but it seems it may be on the cards.

If you look for "good roadster roads", the west coast of Norway may be a good choise. The combination of driving along fjords together with driving over steep hills and mountains with the top down gives a lot of good adventure and pleasure. As a suggestion you may start in the south of the west coast with the road to Lysebotn (http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20957&p=298795#p298795). When you have experienced this area, drive north along the fjords on narrow roads up to Geiranger. Geiranger is among others known for it's wild and steep roads (eagle road). If you proceed north you'll come to the Troll Ladder (Trollstigen). From the Troll Ladder, it is not far up to the Atlantic Road (Atlanterhavsveien). My fiancee and myself took this trip 3 years ago, and it was unforgettable :D

If you google the names of the suggested destinations, there are a lot of info and pictures. For more impulses to Norwegian driving destinations, try the homepage http://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en
