Road Tax up again!

£500 is rediculous isn't it. Unfortunately, these Ms were brought out right at the wrong time, just as they were changing the VED rules.

All newer performance cars seems to be able to get under the top £500 VED even though they are a lot more powerful.

I guess the engine is an old design though, so has to be expected.

I have to say though when I buy another car, I will definately think twice about the VED costs, so maybe the governments plan is working!

For the moment though, I will take the hit (end of this month) and not tell the mrs!!

It's more that newer turbo engines are smaller, with all that start stop and special programming to fool the CO2. The only NA cars that has 340bhp+ and < 255g/km that I know of is the 991. I've driven a few of them. It's a great motor, but feels utterly gutless with all that start stop and eco (think London mini-cab) programming. Unless you turn it all off and put it in sport mode, each time you get in.

Having driven the x35i engine in the 335i / M135i, I think I'll pay the extra for that S54 scream and throttle response. It's another world :D

Edit, ok the 991 does

I agree, if the plan was to make us all a bit more Eco when we buy a new car ok, but to tax us retrospectively ie on cars we have already bought is not on!

What was that quote? The only certainty in this life is death and taxes?

... And nurses ;)

The tax doesn't really bother me. I'm more likely to do the opposite from downsizing and deliberately buy something like an 8-litre Viper as a big two-fingered salute to the government.

I am laughing all the way to the bank now, in 100 years I will have broken even with the savings I am making now :D

Let's share your amusement: show us the depreciation on your new car...

You will be surprised that at the moment my car is selling at cost + about £10k ... (not my analysis, done by a UK Rennlist member before GBG comes out with some statement that he could get one for a fiver :P )

Quick example:

Sell it... then you could buy back your Z4M from Bing...

Are you not tempted to make a profit?

No, not tempted. This is my forever car, it is unique as there is not the same car in the country (nor anywhere with the same spec / manual gearbox), it is sufficiently different from other 911s to make it stand out from the 911 crowd in years to come.

This was my dream car from a very young age and there is nothing I would want different and am very pleased that I have managed to buy one.

That's cool, fair play Mr PVR. I certainly haven't seen one on the road yet.
