The new rules for tax although are quite simple they have not been explained to everybody and a lot of people will not know how it all works now.Angie4m said:TitanTim said:All of this was featured on Watchdog last week I think. Also alot of people don't realise when they buy a car privately they need to tax it as they think it carries over to the new owner. There will be lots of untaxed motors on the road. The publicity on the changes has been very poor.
Tim.
Have to disagree on that one. A hell of a lot of people know that they can now pay monthly by direct debt. A hell of a lot of people have removed their tax disks from their window. Now that *might* be word of mouth but surely before you remove your tax disk you would check that was the case? People are either just too lazy to read it all the information, picking and choosing to read what they *think* applies to them when really as a driver it is *their* responsibility to check that they are abiding by the law.
Its amazing what people do not know.
A workmate was asked to drive the 17 seat minibus at the end of the summer last year.
He only passed his test about 5-7 years ago and did not know that he did not have the proper licence to drive it.
When I said to him that he shouldnt have driven it his reply was "I didnt know and anyway it was them who asked me to drive it, its their problem"
I then told him its not their problem its yours, just the same as if the tyres are bald or it has no MOT, you are the driver, you must check.
