I first met Sabine when she was my Ring Taxi driver in the e34 M5 (the reason I bought one) in the 90s.
Sabine had been fighting cancer for some time - and it was common knowledge to those who frequented the 'Ring and the Pistenklaus (one of the family's hotels/restaurants).
What was not known until recently, was how serious it was, as she'd struggled through a few races but had to call time on the endurance stuff due to the fatigue.
Everyone who knew her thought she was strong/stubborn enough to fight it, but it was not to be. Unfortunately I never got to know her was well as my mate Darren (knows her well from his test driving days at the 'Ring) who will now spend the next couple of years regaling me with her antics. He'll be doubly sad that he's not seen her since 2019 as that's the last time he got to the Ring himself (as my passenger) due to his own battle with similar illness & complications in 2019 and Covid-19 in 2020.
Auf Wiedersehen Sabine - see you in the great Parc Ferme in the sky some day (to join Hannu Mikkola, Keith Greene & Murray Walker who also passed this month) - and I'll have a steak-on-a-stone + 12 pints in your honour next time I get the Ring
