Richard III: the King in the Car Park

I enjoyed it too. I liked the barmy lady. Her engagement made a pile of bones into a person. The royal standard on a box of bones was nice, she loved him and honoured her king as she thought best.

And she was right - it was him .

I know David Baldwin who has written a book on Richard III which was published last February. Apparently it has been updated to include recent events and will be released in a paperback version later this month.

As a yank. I'm not as up to date on the British monarchy as I should be. But wasn't this Richard III a rather nasty bloke with no real redeeming qualities. What with supposedly killing a cousin to make sure he kept the throne to himself or his side of the bloodline. Hey! I just figured out what the pilot script for the "game of thrones" was based on.

A king in a car park makes so much sense. Most car parks want a kings ransom to park.

Actually it was his two nephews 'The Princes in the Tower' he was thought to have had murdered. The view that he was a nasty guy was what the subsequent Tudors promoted and was not helped by Shakespeare's play and one of the main reasons why The Richard III Society was formed in 1924 to provide an alternative opinion of this interesting character.

A preview of the revised book which should be worth reading and which will be published on the 28th February.

'The only biography to include the findings of the archaeological dig in the Leicester car park. Not many people would claim to be saints, or alternatively, consider themselves entirely without redeeming qualities. Some are unquestionably worse than others, but few have been held in greater infamy than Richard Plantagenet, afterwards Duke of Gloucester and, later still, King Richard III. Richard's character has been besmirched as often as it has been defended, and the arguments between his detractors and supporters still rage after several centuries. Was he a ruthless hunchback who butchered his way to the throne, a paragon of virtue who became a victim of Tudor propaganda, or (as seems more likely) something in between? Some would argue that a true biography is impossible because the letters and other personal documents required for this purpose are simply not available; but David Baldwin has overcome this by an in-depth study of his dealings with his contemporaries. The fundamental question he has answered is 'what was Richard III really like'. Consists of 81 illustrations, 57 of which are in colour.'

What's all the fuss? Surely this is not the first time someone has found a "Richard the Third" in a public car park. :P

I find these things really sad where archeologists are concerned. The poor guy was laid to rest and what happens, he gets a pick axe through his head 400 years or so later, pulled out the ground and stuck in a cardboard box and paraded around. So much for rest in peace. He should have been left alone. All it confirmed was what we mostly already knew.

Tim.

This discovery is just a disaster for Richard's long lost Canadian Relatives...

Why? He will have a royal tomb , to be visited by many ....and the rels will be able to start an uprising and lay claim to the crown....or not.

Beware the Canadian invasion, it may be soon...
