Retrofit cruise on z4 coupe

Has anyone got cruise control for sale ?Or know where i can buy it. Do i need just the stalk or some wiring harness as well for the coupe ?

Thanks

Youll need the stalk and the harness for the Coupe. I did it on mine a few weeks ago. Harness is ~£30 from Soper and the stalk is something like £120 new. Its worth contacting the breakers on eBay for the stalk, they do come up occasionally. Second hand prices are very varied, I was very very lucky and got the stalk for £25 but they generally go for around £60 used.

Not hugely difficult to fit but can be a bit fiddly, took me most of a saturday afternoon.

Does soper have a website I can order it from?

I did mine on Thursday, Took around 10 mins from start to finish and works perfectly. I luckily managed to get both a stalk AND the column shroud from an Ebay breaker for £50, saved me having to cut my original shroud.

One thing I will say, does anyone else find the up/down for OFF and forwards/backwards for + or - speed a bit, well strange?? I cannot remember any of my cars where it wasn't the other way round, ie up/down for speed +/- and the other for on/off or resume..

The only thing I find strange about the control is it should be push to slow down and pull to speed up. It's ironic as BMW are one of the few to make their auto gear levers this way around. VAG are all the 'wrong' way.

From what I remember you need the stalk and a bit of loom - Forum member "Ed doe" bought these bits last year for about £105 and had it fitted by our local indy. Maybe search his posts, or PM him.

You need to make a hole in the column shroud for the stalk, but it's position is marked on the inside!

Good luck  I keep thinking I should do this mod seeing as the M3 is going to have a 50 average limit for at least another year! (It's hard to stick to 50 in a 3 litre Z4)!

For anyone attempting this, here are the references I used..

And the part numbers..
harness p/n 61120411248
stalk p/n 61316940989

Note that theres an error in the BMW document, its pin 39 which the loom connects to in the engine bay.

A fair few people have done it and its not too hard, just fiddly routing the cable and removing the trim.

I looked on eBay for a while and then bought the kit from a place in Germany called "Individual Car Consulting". It cost me E190 for the whole caboodle including the lower cowl. I'm afraid that I bottled it and had a local specialist fit it for about £70. I'm an electronics engineer too

The BMW document quotes 3/4 hour to an hour? Does the trim that needs to be removed come off and go back on OK?

Only the steering cowl needs to be removed, one plastic screw/clip on the top and a screw on the bottom. The connector is taped to the indicator stalk wiring and the switch clips into place. As I did not need to cut my lower cowl (I got the one from donor vehicle) It took me around 10 mins.

The stalk is only around £80, at least that is what I paid for mine back in July 2015.
That was from a local main dealer

Later cars like coupes don't have the wiring loom for cruise so it takes more than 10mins to do the extra wiring.

So would I be right in saying that an 04 roadster will already have the loom in place and all I would really need to do once the stalk is in place is plug and play ?

Steve

Possibly but no guarantee - build date cut-off was April '04 I think. Take the cowl off and have a look, if it's there it will be taped.
