Only the steering cowl needs to be removed, one plastic screw/clip on the top and a screw on the bottom. The connector is taped to the indicator stalk wiring and the switch clips into place. As I did not need to cut my lower cowl (I got the one from donor vehicle) It took me around 10 mins.

Later cars like coupes don't have the wiring loom for cruise so it takes more than 10mins to do the extra wiring.
Being that mine is a Dec 07 Coupe, does anyone know what further panels etc that need to be removed to facilitate the harness instalation?

Basically you remove the steering wheel cowling and the small bit of dash trim around the light switches. A straightened out wire coat hanger is your friend. No need to open the trim around the glovebox, you can access the bulkhead hole (the white plastic bit) directly from the footwell.

I think it's easier with the glovebox out, especially if you want to secure the repair wire to the bulkhead loom.

I use a nut tied to a length of string to get the wire thorough the bulkhead, tape it to that then pull back through.

I called Oxford BMW yesterday for a price on a Cruise unit - Last Z4 I had it cost me £250 Including fitting - They now tell me it's gonna cost £250 plus fitting

Because they are mugging you off! What engine and year is your Z4?

Fitted mine last night, including cutting the cowl, really simple job if you have an early Z4 with the loom already present. I waited till a used one came up on eBay (100 bucks inc from the US) It all just clips in, one screw for the cowl, took about 30-40 mins I guess..... All works fine... surprised there's no telltale light in the instrument panel when it's working.

It took you 40 mins to take the cowl off and clip it in?!

I too thought it strange that there was no lamp but thinking about it it's pretty obvious when it's on.
