By the 10th of April, petrol could be as high as £1.40/litre - perhaps that's what's put the 6-pot guys off.
Pah, when you open your ears you just don't think about it

So what's the route now? Inverary and North up to A85 around Loch Awe?
I believe so. You joining us? :)

I'll definately be up for this, I should have my quad pipes on by then!

Be good to meet up and meet some fellow enthusiasts too!

I'm over on the east coast so where abouts are you intending on heading off from and what time? I don't think this has been decided yet... or I've missed that posting!

Hey jonnymito. Planning on meeting in Balloch at the Lomond Shores, probably around 8ish to make the most of the day.

Hope you can make it!

I've already said, I would love to - but I'll be in Colorado.

I've got an airport run to do in the morning which means I won't be leaving south-side of Glasgow until half ten. If I made a right foot happy run I could be in Oban by 1ish. Where are you planning on meeting for lunch and at what time?

Ah, sorry Malc - sure you'll enjoy Colorado just as much.

CoupeChief - not yet got that finalised. Will keep you in the loop.

Ok. Got slightly more concrete plans now for Sunday 10th April.

Meeting
The plan is to meet at Loch Lomond Shores car park in Balloch for approx 9.30am and plan to head off about 9.45-10am.

The route would be as follows:

Outwards Journey

Balloch to Garelochead along the Glen Fruin Road
Continue on to Arrochar and then the Rest and Be Thankful (obligatory photoshoot location)
Along the A83 and down towards Inverary on the banks of Loch Fyne
From Inverary, north to Bridge of Awe and Oban.

Return Journey

Oban through Bridge of Awe to Tyndrum/Green Welly Shop
Down A82 to Tarbet at the top of Loch Lomond
Down past Inverbeg and Luss to Balloch.

Planned Stops

1. Glen Fruin Road (ideal photo location)
2. Rest and Be Thankful (another ideal photo location!)
3. Oban (lunch and fighting off some seagulls...)
4. Green Welly Shop, Tyndrum (coffee/toilet break)

If people were up for it, I was thinking we could stop off for dinner at the Drovers' Inn on the A82 on our way back down towards Loch Lomond. I suppose it really depends on where people are coming from and how keen they are to get back home. There are other potential places to stop if people feel strongly about it - Arrochar and Inverary to name a couple. I know I'm not too bothered about stopping anywhere else, but if anyone wants to suggest anything, feel free.

The outward journey is roughly 85 miles which is just over 2 hours (on Google Maps). Return leg is via a different route and roughly 80 miles. Total journey length and time (as per Google Maps) is 158 miles/3 hours 52 miles. As those of you have driven these roads before know, these are only rough estimates for time. The last time I drove up to Oban it took me closer to 4 hours (ended up missing the ferry to Mull - starting to think I'm the jinx when it comes to ferrys!)

I've saved the route in Google Maps for those of you who want to have a wee look.

EDIT: Given the recent posts on the forum, I thought it would be worthwhile posting a link to Spokey's guide to cruise etiquette

Closer to the date, I will PM my mobile number and email address to all of those who are confirmed/possibles so we can keep in touch.

And remember - I may only have a 4-pot, but no taking the piss! :poke:

Well done Jimmy, looks like a good route.

I'll probably peel off at Crianlarich on the way back and head east.

Looking forward to meeting some fellow enthusiasts. :roundel:

And remember - you are on prime biking roads, so watch out for low flying motorcycles.

You should also be aware that this is the favourite hunting grounds of the boys in blue - Argyll constabulary. :driving:

That's why I thought it would be wise to add the link to Spokey's guide - I don't want to be held responsible for these bloody 6 cylinder BMW drivers!

And you're doing it on a weekend, early in the season - there will be a cop with a hair dryer behind every bush.

And it'll soon be open season for old couples with caravans going up the West coast (including my parents who used to curse and swear at the things on the A9!)
