replacing the tyres on my Z4 e89 2012

I go for how the car feels and mine feels better with lower pressures, I think 34/35 fronts and 36/37 rears. I'm running Kuhmo's

at the risk of opening up another can of worms should the tyre pressures be the same as the runflats? In my own humble opinion Michelins are the best for me and my car, feels much better!

When I changed to normal tyres the trye fitters told me to use the same pressures as per the original run flats. The car feels fine to me. Others might have different opinions.

2.3 bar at the front and 2.8 at the back I didn't notice yesterday the garage had put 2.9 front and back !!!

Im about to change my tyres to non runflats after overwhelming opinion on this forum. Im not sure on the make of tyre yet but have already bought the puncture repair kit (with rats tails) and have a portable compressor that is small and works well. Ive only ever had a flat tyre that was obvious when I went to get into a car after it had been parked for several hours or I had heard that tell tale sound of screw head on bitumen and detected the puncture before it led to the tyre being flat. So Im gambling on being able to detect a problem, or the tyre being flat in my garage in the morning. Probably shouldn't have said anything, so fingers crossed for me.

Blackcircles quoting today 4 x Pilot sport 4s's @ £ 774.48 fitted.

Is that a good price ?

225 / 35 R19
255 / 30 R19

The same set up I’m looking at ATS £673 for the same set up I think?

Buy through Quidco and get another 5% cash back

The discount was applied automatically on ATS site, I didn’t have to use a promo code for the screenshot you see. As shown to you it’s £100 cheaper than Black Circles, without the ATS automatic discount still £50 cheaper than BC and IF, and that’s IF the Quidco casback works another £30ish off so ATS, with Quidco could workout total cost approx £640.

Bottom line buy those off ATS online today and the most you’ll pay is £673.96

For transparency BC also offering 2% cash back via Quidco. Quidco can be hit or miss, more hit in my experience

As far as pressures go, try different pressures out yourself.
Like many in here who have actually tried different pressures, I have settled in much lower than standard RF pressures. I’m using F36 R38 at the moment. At RF pressures it felt like it was skipping across the road too much and losing grip, especially on wet roads, on bumpy corners. At lower pressures there was too much movement from the tyres. As it is now feels spot on. That’s with Uniroyal Rainsport 3. As pointed out above, they aren’t the very best tyre but they are soo much better in every way than the Bridgestone RFs they replaced!
My background is from over 20 years driving MX5s on the road and on track so I have become quite good at reading what my tyres are doing

Cheers Andy, I have an ATS less than half a mile away. I'll check it out.

No problem, after seeking advice from the Forum I’m also considering 245/35’s for the rears for slightly better comfort and more rim protection for my 296’s. The total for them, excluding Quidco, is £641.

Therein lies my problem, my nearest ATS is about 100 miles away and I’ve got a set of 6mm Conti RFTs on it just now I’d like to keep even and getting them back would be a problem. Thinking about sticking them in the 3 series and taking them to get fitted.

Let me know how you get on

thanks for the comments/suggestions, am still to make up my mind between not run flats and expensive run flats, between comfort, better grip and cheaper ....and the security of the run flats...... whats my plan for a flat with a not run flat tyre with no space for a spare ? hmmmm havent had a flat for a long time!!? What are your thoughts? Do any of you who have ditched the run flats have a back up plan for a flat tyre?

Yep, rats tails

Hi,

I'm considering switching to rats tails as some of my cans of Holts tyre weld are now nearly out of date. They're not something I'd ever come across before reading this thread. Are these a permanent or temporary fix?

Rattail is a temp get you home device..tyre should be removed and the carcass inspected and if suitable a proper penny on a stick type rubber plug inserted from INSIDE the tyre..

Having said that I'm aware of certain emergency services who collected punctures on a regular basis and used rattails and continued to drive cars in high speed pursuits..

Sometimes the puncture is too much even for a rattail

It's interesting that your chosen Front pressure is BMW's recommended, but your Rear is more than 12% below. That's quite a lot.

I omitted quite an important detail. The fronts are still The Uniroyal Rainsports 3 whereas the rears are Goodyear F1 Asy. The RS3 definitely need a bit of extra pressure to stop them feeling floppy whereas the F1s don’t need to be so high. When I get F1s (or MPS4) on the fronts I’ll be able to drop them to a reasonable level too, hopefully closer to about 34psi.
