Removing/re-routing air flow thingy

Sorry this will seem like a totally retarded thread...but i can do worse i assure you..
While out on the wales meet some one (Ed i think?) mentioned how you can re route the airflow into the cabin from the engine...or something like that..
Not sure what he meant but he said something about it sounding different from the cabin?
Anyone mind clearing up what he meant? Or am i totally off what he was talking about?

They are on about a "Sound Generator", not sure you can get one for a 2.0i though

aggh bad times
i ll just hafta resort to making car noises myself instead

"vrrroooooooaaaaaarrrmmmm.....tsshhh"

the tsshh is the top secret dump valve i fitted on my 2.0 turbo

Woots - the 6 cylinder engines have a tube that runs from manifold to firewall called a 'sound generator'. It's standard on the 3.0i and option or retrofit on others. Basically it allows engine noise into the cabin to make it sound better in an otherwise oversilenced car. Inside are 2 foa mbungs that some people trim to further increase the sound.

Not sure you can do much on the 4 cylinder. Still who wants that noise in the cabin :poke:

Dont be mean CJ, hes got bigger problems though, or should I say smaller ones, those 16" rims :poke:

Hhahaha!!!
I knowww i really do need alloys...no idea when i ll buy some...
Deffo will not be getting 108's just far too common it seems...least no1 else has what ive got on mine (maybe for good reason) but its individual
Also i was washin my car today and the left fog light is like loose...its not going to fall out but it is loose...should i worry about it?
Or just be confident that the thrust from the rocket that is the 2.0 will create enough g-force to keep it in place?

Hey - I've been rooting for the little 2.0i on another thread so I'm allowed that one.

G force holding the light in - you're barkin' Woots - the awesome brakes will cause it to fall out

Just needs tightening up. Yo should be able to reach through the lower access panel if you're lucky

It's the vibrations from the 4 pot that's caused that, a smooth straight 6 wouldnt be a problem

Yeahh as the chassis struggles to contain the monstrous power of the 2.0
Its like having a prize bull in a babys cot...sooner or later...something is going to give.. :poke:

It'll be ok once the 18" rims are on as they'll be like huge great flywheels smoothing the vibration out....

Come on Woots you know thats never gonna happen :poke: That's what dad's are for AKA cash machine

Haha naahh
My dad might be generous...but he isn't crazy-bonkers...
I will have to pay him back..just verrryyy slowlllyy :tumbleweed:

why not get a member with a 3.0L to record their engine noise and burn it onto a CD, then you can play it all the time! :D

Remember that if you increase the wheel size, your acceleration will be reduced (but a higher top speed).

So .... with a 2.0, you may need to record the screetching sound of the tyres as well then :poke:

Ellipsoids are the way to go. Best looking alloys for the Z4 IMHO
