I could tell you,But then I'd have to kill you!!
I remember on the old Z4um there were a few post about removing the
foam pieces from the sound generator, but cannot remember what they
said the benefit of doing that was. Can someone explain this ,and would you remove both foam pieces or just one :?

ok only one piece...is that the piece towards the front of the car...or at the firewall. and why not take both out???

I forget. It's the smaller one I think on the engine side. If you take both out it is super loud and makes farting noises.

That doe's it ....I'm taking both out...I can't hear anyway and farting noises could work to my benefit in heavy traffic

I took one piece out and I like it... no difference in normal driving, BUT IT'S VERY LOUD WHEN YOU PLANT YOUR FOOT!!! :D

Taking both out won't do any harm other than noise will it???

WOOHOO...........out they come :driving: :driving:

The bigger of the two pieces is toward the firewall. When I was playing with mine, when I took out the larger piece, the end to wards the fire wall had a bunch of very fine dust in it. I assume that the intake is pulling air through the foam from the cabin area, giving you more of that intake sound in the cabin. With all the dust I found in the first piece, I left the smaller piece in tact and I do actually do take out the smaller piece every once and a while and clean it. I have no specific knowledge to the fact of my thoughts. I just figure that if the foam is catching fine dust it is a good thing and I will leave the one piece in and clean it. If any of you techs can dispel this ugly rumor I would like to hear your thoughts as well.

So would I....don't want to damage anything just for some noise
although this is the first time they have been out since 2003 and I did not notice and dust on them

I don't know if I have a leg to stand on saying what I did. It just looks like it comes from the firewall, through the foam to the intake. I don't know if there is something else to stop the dust before it goes in. Just my thoughts. :?

I think y'all are talking about two different things. Isn't the sound generater in the exhaust, not the intake??

NO.......I worry about you sometimes flyboy...I wish I lived closer so I could throw a cold towel over your head every now and then.and let you know things will be ok

Any chance of a description / howto do this?

Sounds (pun intended) like a good idea, but I don't know what to do!

D.
hold on...I'll see if I can help you find it (the sound generator that is) WHEW!!! glad I didn't leave that door open

The plastic hose comes from the firewall to a junction, that comes from the panel airfilter box I think. I just opened the hood and that is what it looks like to me. I believe that is why you get the additional intake sound when you put your foot in it.
