Remote Roof Opening And Closing

This is something I’ve really ummed and arred about as it is £300, and the only option I’d want / use is the one touch operation within the car. I’m sure I’ll wventually pick one up but holding a button for 15 seconds ish really is a 1st world issue that doesn’t need a solution

I had the Reinhold on my SLK and it worked very well for the three years I owned the car.

I think there are a couple of extra features on the smart-top, but they were very minor.

I think I've got the Reinhold in my car, the previous owner must have put it in and not told anyone. I have one-touch in the car and the on the keyfob. You think it's not worth it but I use the remote one-touch ALL THE TIME. It's ace walking out the house and watching it all unfold, jump straight in and off you go :driving:

I wouldn’t be without my Smarttop module.
One touch is ideal when moving off and putting the roof up or down when the traffic lights change sooner than anticipated.

I agree.
You can code the car to allow roof operation up to 30mph without a smarttop/reinhold (like I have).
Unfortunately 'one touch' can't be coded.

The smart Top has some nice functions over just opening the top,
Folding mirrors on lock and unlock
All windows up on remote
And the button that works all four windows (big one) becomes one touch, with or with out ignition on

The Smarttop module is a very compact unit and appears well made with a good wiring loom. The connectors mate firmly and accurately with the BMW connectors.

I was having a look at the SmartTop module today as there was a guy selling one on here and most of the features can be programmed using Carly, which I've already done. The only ones I'd benefit from by getting a SmartTop are the one-touch open and close, remote open and close, and one-touch closing of all windows. I really don't understand why that's not something you can programme.

I thought the generally idea of not having one touch was to protect the top from damage should you accidentally get something trapped in it.
The range of my keyfob seems to be about 10 feet at most. Might as well be in car.

It’s easy to halt the operation by pressing the button again
One touch is priceless for when caught out by changing traffic lights

10ft ???
Im going to check mine but I’m sure that in open areas it’s more likec 10m

The closing issues ie one touch close and close from the fob I’m told was a safety issue. A Child in the USA got trapped at sometime so bmw buried the software deep in the system to prevent tampering.

Aye I get the reason behind one-touch roof closing, but not having one-touch closing all windows is just inconvenient. They all open with one-touch, so not all closing with one-touch too is just a faff.

It brilliant, when I get back from a topless drive, while Im taking my solar protective cap off and putting my sunglasses away in the car, the roof is closing, rather than one finger on the button till its shut, and with a smart top the windows are one touch closing

Smarttop - apart from the price there are no negatives!
Mine is on my second E89 and would want the same unit on another car.

I haven’t heard a criticism of them yet!

I wonder if you could just wire the switch into a timed relay?

I'm not really bothered about the remote opening/closing. It's just a bit tedious to keep your finger on the button for 20 seconds.

To open and close from the fob is quite important to me - I have some mobility issues and find it much easier to get in and out of the car with the roof lowered.

BMW weren‘t interested in my problem - my dealer was  (Lloyd’s Newcastle ) and fitted my smarttop as part of the deal on the new car.

Yeah same with the Reinhold one as well.
Not sure about the folding mirrors, but if you have them they can be coded with Carly anyway.
