Remote Roof Opening And Closing

On my E85 I had the Gaptech fitted, which I loved, open and close the roof with a few clicks, so I just searched for the same thing for my E89, all I could find was this from Advanced In-Car Technologies

Has any member fitted this or is there an alternative that I have missed ?

I fitted The Smarttop to mine as I loved the gap tech I had on my 85.

It’s a tad expensive at over £300 but worth every penny imo.

It does a bit more than just open and close the roof and if you programme it from your pc before you fit it ,it takes literally 20 mins from start to finish in the car.

The Advanced In Car Technology one in the link below is £259.00, be interesting to know if anyone has fitted this: and if there is much difference to the smartop

Looks to have the same features as the smarttop but if the picture of the product and loom is anything to go by I’d steer clear.

The smarttop is completely plug and play no extra wiring involved and the unit is fully programmable to how you want it.

I just fitted the Comfort Module from Reinhold Engineering in Germany.

Came in at 200 Euros (about £180). It can open and close the roof with one touch operation on the console. Raise and lower the roof from the fob, gives control of windows from the fob or switches too. Also allows roof operation anywhere below 30 mph (little disconcerting at first!!

Bit more involved in fitting (not plug and play), but I managed it in about 45 minutes and it's a damn sight cheaper than the Smarttop.

From ordering and paying (via Paypal) delivery took about 4 days.

Got to say, loving it.

Good luck.

Thanks Laudy, I actually ordered the smart top today, I did see all the options (I think) but I liked the idea of plug and play in the end, not cheap tho £336.00

What I like about the smart top is the regular firmware updates available which are easy to install using a laptop

What's the point of remote roof opening? You have to stand there, waiting 19 seconds for it to happen, when you could be sitting in the car in comfort, pressing the button on the dash.

Remote roof closing makes some sense but, even if you walk away while it's happening, I'll bet you look back carefully to make sure the roof hasn't stalled an inch from being shut.

As it is, without a remote, you sit in the car and the roof opens or closes with no inconvenience.

I do like the idea of one touch opening / closing but not enough to spend 300 quid ..... also I'd not want to fit it as I'm cack at anything like that ...... will keep looking out for a 2nd hand one to pop up...

I'm a seconder for the Reinhold Engineering Comfort Module as I fitted it about three weeks ago, and it works a treat, in fact I couldn't recommend it enough.

Busterboo... As for why, well firstly you DON'T have to wait for anything as you can drive as soon as you want. Operation can be achieved up to 34mph (yes I know you can already program this, but not without having to press the button all the time!). Press, hold, wait for windows to start then let go and it carries on performing (either up or down).
Windows down when you park? No problem, get out, shut the door, press the lock button and your windows go up automatically.

It's like any "convenience" option, you can live without it but it's a nice to have option, especially when your wife gives it to you as a Birthday present 8)

I've screenshot the page. As you can see 199 Euros, plus a little for postage.
