Today, I did the QA of the installation and documentation for gapTech for the new Remote Roof Module. It is working great
I received the module in the post today and went to install it. Like the One Touch Module, the installation is all from the inside of the car behind the switch control box. As the OTH module, the box is tiny and you could easily lose about 10 of these in the space behind the control unit. One of the wires to attach to (white / yellow / red) is very thin, and when using the scotch lock, it just cut the wire in two. That took the decision out of my hands and I got the soldering iron out.
I rejoined the thin wire and decided to solder them all instead, which is actually a nicer solution then the locks as it showed to me that the wire could have easily snapped when putting it all back together and pushing everything around a bit so it did me a favour really.
When soldering, make sure you don't earth the solder iron or use a gas solder instead. This time, I tested the roof first before I fitted the panel back in.
The opening procedure is very simple, three clicks to do it. I found it easiest to get the timing right by doing a one-two count between each click, that worked each time (my car is on a CTEK charger so no issues with the battery running down
). The closing clicks are easy as well with the two open clicks + the lock click.
I tested the one touch as well again, just to make sure it was not interfering, and all was well there as well.
The installation is far superior to the Reinhold modules from an ease point of view, as everything can be done from the single easily accessible location in the car.
I can highly recommend the product and at the offered price, it is very good value for money especially comparing it to the competition.
