Remap done today

So today was the day that my Z4 has its remap done. To start with the car had a full diagnostic done, and was given a clean bill of health, with no fault codes found in the system and the live data reading as expected. It was then taken for a test drive and again given the all clear.

The remap was then carried out and once everything had been disconnected we took the car out for a road test.

I must say I am somewhat disappointed with the results. I am guessing that I must have over hyped the results a bit too much, as although the car did indeed feel a little more awake, it didn’t blow me away.

Now I appreciate that it’s only a 2.0 engine, but the results from my 320d felt a lot more substantial, and that had much smaller gains in Bhp and torque.

Estimated results after the map were 260 bhp, and 420 on torque.

The car is pulling smoothly through the Rev range, but I am not noticing much of a push me back into my seat experience.

I am just expecting too much, or does it sound like the car has not responded too well to the map. I am thinking of getting a dyno done to see what the results.

The map was from Quantum tuning who I have used many times before.

Cheers

Paul

Had my remap done last week by Celtic tuning, 20i e89 the difference I've noticed is is considerable, didn't have a rolling road on it but I reckon it's got to be close to what they claim, must be a different type of map/program

How can you not notice 50% more torque? Sounds as though something isn’t quite right there :?

This is what concerns me smartbear. There is a difference for sure, but I wouldn’t of said it was massive, and with a 50% increase in torque I would expect the wow factor.

Guess it’s time to get it on the rollers and see what she is producing.

I have only driven the car for about 15 miles since the map, as been too busy today, so maybe I just need to get out and give it a proper drive. There is a big difference low down in the Rev range, and it doesn’t need to be pushed anywhere near as hard as it did, but I don’t get that pushing me back in my seat feeling that I have had with other cars by hve been mapped.

Anybody live in Northamptonshire that knows what they are looking for and want to take it for a spin? Lol.

Weird, either you are not pressing the go pedal hard enough or there is something wrong, or your senses are wired differently to most..is it an auto?

Looks like a dyno will uncover the truth..

Ask Quantum to recheck it for you before you start shelling out for a rolling road!!! my remap was done by Celtic and they offered a 14 day money back guarantee if not satisfied. Not sure what guarantees Quantum offer.

Maybe they can up the level of tune if you’re underwhelmed by what you’ve got, it should be a massive increase if it’s actually producing the claimed power though? :?

My Z is the 18i manual and Celtic did a Stage 2 for me taking it from 153 to 241 bhp...what I noticed on the test drive was how smooth the car had become and how much quicker it was when hitting the juice in 3rd & 4th especially. It does not throw me back into the seat and give loads of wheel spin but it now pulls like a train!!!!

Ok, so maybe I may have been a bit quick in posting.

I have just got back from a long drive in the car to see if I am just expecting too much.

I traveled 25 miles on a dual carriage way at a steady 70-75mph, and the exited into a nice quite B road.

Upon planting the go pedal, the car went like stink, and then continued to do so until my nerve ran out. Night and day difference to what it was.

Is it possible the car was still adjusting to the map?

My car was given 3 full power runs on the dyno after remapping & gave more power each time, the increment was small though and i don’t think anyone could detect 1bhp extra

The map is not dynamically adjusted, the auto box ‘learns’ your habits...but since you are manual I ascribe you’re lack of initial excitement to be caused by not pressing the go peddle hard enough...also when re-mapped short shifting will not allow the bhp curve to build up ...

The auto box is the perfect marriage with the N20 remap as it allows the engine to sit in the max go area most if the time as it accelerates...

The auto is about 0.5 secs faster to 60 than the manual on the 28i so wil be even more so with a more aggressive remap..
