Redundancy

Ok so small update I've managed to renegotiate my three day week backup to a 4 day week well 32 hours.
As I work for a small firm and everybody seems to be on different hours I pointed out that it was unfair to make everybody go on a three day week when some people were only working 4 days already and some where working 5 days a lot fairer to reduce it by 25% for everybody.
But the question I have now is they want to re contract me for 32 hours , now I know in the likelihood of me being made redundant this will alter my redundancy pay as it's based on your final salary at the time of redundancy reducing my redundancy payout by several thousand, but will it also affect my length of service with them as I've been with the company for 27 years is this some sort of sneaky way not to pay me any redundancy if I sign a new contract

I'm happy to work for a 4 day week but signing a new contract has got me a bit nervous, can't seem to find anything about it on the ACAS website

Think your redundancy is worked out on your weekly wage, so if your weekly wage is going down 25% then I'm guessing so will your redundancy.

I'd definitely be considering some legal advice at this point, from an employment specialist firm.

Maybe start with the Citizens Advice Bureau?

Sorry to hear it.

Are they offering any outplacement support? Maybe it's your opportunity to try something new?

That's cr#p news. My daughter's fiancé was made redundant from Princess yachts, a few weeks back. He has been offered and taken some good courses from the job centre. He's had to pay out of his redundancy to get on them quickly, but has been assured he will get the fees back. He was a fitter and is great with his hands, but he hated working with fibreglass stench/fibres etc and made no attempt to fight the decision.

There's work out there, for the hard working, what ever your age. Hope you get some thing sorted and can look back on this positively in a few years.

Very sorry to hear that Si as we were only talking about it on sunday. As others have said it may well prove to be an opportunity to put your skills to another type of employment that will give you greater enjoyment and satisfaction in the years to come. All the best for the future.

Hope it all works out ok for you mate.
To be honest I had to chase Richard to come and see us and when he eventually came round he said he'd get some prices over......that never happened!? No wonder they're struggling with him in charge.

I know it's a damn shame I've worked there 28 years and used to be a real thriving business but just lately work has dropped off they lost all interest in the business!!! started a second business selling artificial grass which is doing well but unfortunately I'm not part of that

Sorry to hear about anyone going through it. Happen to me 5 years ago, but I got lucky and the job I found afterwards I love.

Best of luck!

Jimi

Might be worth sharing what you've done/looking for on here....it's always surprising how small a world it can be, some one might know someone who's looking right now, etc..

Good luck with the search, only advice I'd offer is to be quick to be in contact with comparable companies in your area (good people are always hard to find)...

Thanks for the good advice,
But I've been a printer for 33 year's and unfortunately the type of work I do is now a dying

I know exactly how you feel , I was made redundant at the beginning of this month. I am 44 and worked in the offshore oil and gas game.. My world has totally turned upside down, have loads of experience but unable to secure another job at the min.. And it's not for the want of trying I have applied for over a hundred jobs since then and nothing turned up as yet... Worked all my life from leaving school and I can't even get job speakers allowance as the NI. Was not paid while I was working in Brazil.. Can't get tax credits as my wage last year was too high, no help from the government as they say we only require £114 p/w to live on and my wife makes more than that only just its just great... But we still alive and some one some where will be in a worse place than me ... Good luck hope things work out for you
