Not good. But at least you are in control of your own destiny now.
On a side note - now that the dust has settled I would check with a solicitor to make sure the redundancy is above board. Nothing to loose as you may get a top up on the redundancy payout.

Despite the cuts where I work, there is one new position available that I can apply for, with my existing company. However, there is no guarantee I will get it, and so my focus has to be on finding alternative employment...

Sorry to hear this. It would be one thing if the company folded and then everyone was in the mire together, but it must be entirely more gruelling to bear the thought that effectively your job has been taken from you and given to someone else As others have said before me, good luck with the search, and screw the bastards for all the redundancy settlement you can squeeze out of them...

Just caught this thread Adam, really sorry to hear your news, I was made redundant from my last job, although I hated the job and most of the people I worked with it was still not a nice feeling, I contemplated many different options, I took on a temporary over Xmas job and loved it, Loved it so much I stuck in, worked hard, gave out nothing but positive comments, 2 years later I am still there and on a permanent contract, it is certainly not the best paid job I have ever had but I think that is made up for by being happy in my job.
I have moved a few times in my life from one job to another for more money and it has always been a mistake, I think job satisfaction and working with people you like and get on well with is worth it for a bit less cash at the end of them month, Good luck mate, see you next week and I will stand you a pint or 2 now your a pauper

Just found this thread too, sorry to hear Adam. Keep your chin up and good luck with the interviews. Redundancy is pretty common these days and the chances are it won't be the first time it'll happen to you. You have youth on your side though so you'll find something.
I was made redundant in 2005 when Motorola shut down our entire office in Livingston. It was the most depressing 3 months during the consultation period, because we had to turn up for work even though we had nothing to do when we got there. Turned out to be good though, got a job I enjoyed far more than what Moto was (or wasn't) challenging me with. The redundancy package also bought me a new car

Adam - just found this so sorry I'm late to this thread - REALLY sorry to hear this news. I'll speak to you at Applecross - please let me know (PM) if you wnat any comment on any Glasgow (ish) roles - I know a few people in our industry so will do all I can to help. Provider based roles are indeed being frequently cut. Happened to me some 15 years ago - from a Building Society - whilst I was on route to California on hols ! - new job within 5 weeks (inc 3 weeks travelling through calif) but totally accept things were a tad different now. All the very best with the search. J
It's happened to me twice - my first job out of uni disappeared overnight with no notice, just 'don't come in tomorrow'. A month after buying my first flat
Found another job within a couple of months... which itself disappeared after 9 months with a 'we can't afford to pay you on time, your pay will be two weeks late' - which turned into three... I started looking around and found my current job which I still love 14 years on...hopefully something will turn up

Hi Adam i employ around 50 people and my employment law knowledge is fairly good. If you can prove that the new job is your role regardless of what they now call it you can take action against the company as it is illegal to employ someone into a post that you have made someone redundant from within 6 months.

Sorry to read this - under a section 188 myself at the moment, an empty consultation process that will end with me and my team departing from September onwards. Still it buys a bit more time to find an opening elsewhere. Job market is as flat as the surf at Tynemouth after a spell of high pressure, but just been invited for an interview on Monday - my main concern now is will there be a decent place to park the Z. Then if I'm lucky enough to get it will I be able to get voluntary redundancy and walk away with redundancy cheque.
Hope your interviews go well - I hate this re-applying for jobs with the same org. following restructures - i'd much prefer to tell them where to shove it and move on. But it ain't easy out there at the moment.
