Today, I saw I didn't have the recommended gear indication on dashboard with my second key ???
Is this normal?

I believe this is something you can select through the switch menus from the left stalk.
Must be one of the settings that each key remembers. If you use both keys then you may need to take time to make sure you hve all the same settings on each one.

I've never seen this, is it a coded option? or though the BC stalk as mentioned by enuff_zed? Looks a bit small to be visible when looking at the road - how does it work for you Arsouille?

I’ve got a hunch it’s for manual cars only, enabled via the l/h stalk (push & hold when on the blank screen)

Displays on mine (Manual gearbox) in comfort mode and disappears when im in Sport mode.

I tend to drive in sport mode as I prefer the characterisitcs such as throttle response being sharper and also feel having dabbled with back to back runs driving in sport mode actually delivers better economy so in a nutshell its useless for me :P

I think it is one of those EU directive things for efficiency, my Berlingo manual has it as well.
Just as easy to match gear with speed. Change to 2nd at 20mph, 3rd at 30, so forth.
That way you are always at the start of the torque band.

My F31 shows the same triangles when cruising, it only shows a gear when it recommends changing up or down.

It's been around for ages - my mate had a Y plate Golf GTi (early 1800 model) that had it. It would also tell you what gear it thought you should be in.

I'm amazed it still worked after we had spent a day thrashing it around Silverstone!

I've noticed the same on mine. From day to day, intermittently there is a number next to it.
Never really bothered about it but reading JimsZ's comments I'll pay attention next time
I'll also check out the enuff_zed theory - cheers

When I'm in 'bimble mode' it shows the two arrows if it's happy that I'm being efficient, but if I let the revs rise and don't change it will show me the number of the gear it thinks i should be in to save fuel.
It also works the other way. if I let the engine labour in too high a gear it shows the lower one I should be in.
I know this can be turned off via the button on the stalk and accessing the menus.
Both my keys do the same, but given the fact the keys remember different settings for other things, that is why my theory is that the OP's keys are just not set up the same.

Mine will always tell me to change up but I never see it telling me to change down. On the 28i it encourages you to keep your revs low...between 1300-1500 RPM which I personally believe is a load of balls. As much as there is ample torque at this rev range, I don't think flooring at low revs is doing the engine any favours.

Well I can guarantee that it will tell you to change down as well. I read it in the manual so tried it once just to see.
And your personal belief regarding the 'load of balls' is indeed justified. But remember this is only a 'nanny state' addition to encourage us to save fuel.

In fact, having just seen Busterboo's thread regarding 35is fuel consumption, I would suggest that the 4-cylinder models are equipped with this feature just to ensure that there is enough fuel left at the pumps for the 6 cylinder boys to be able to reach the shops :poke:

Yes that's exactly it
I will look in the menus to have the two identical keys
