Also when I looked at it BMW were actually cheaper than WD although it means all future servicing will need to be done at a main dealer whilst under their warranty.

That's not what I was told last time I rang them. They told me that I could buy a "lapsed policy" - no cover for the first month that it's in operation, and slightly more expensive than a continuing policy, but no requirement for a dealer inspection.
