Recaro Install in Z4 Coupe

I have a 3.0si with Dream Red interior (a bit brighter than Imola from the M's). As the car sees more and more track time, I decided it was time to upgrade the driver side to a bucket seat to keep me from sliding around.

I originally intended on getting the standard black Recaro Pole Position as matching the interior wasn't a big priority for me but a few weeks back my friend had sent me a picture of a custom seat and since then I couldn't stop thinking about them:

Seats finally arrived last week, the install was a little annoying as the "optional" hardware really wasn't optional if you wanted a seamless install. That optional slider is what allows everything to bolt/line up correctly. Without them, you need to bore out the holes in the mounting hardware - not funy. In any case, crappy iPhone pic:

Any comment on the weight savings ? I would expect a significant loss.

Seat alone weighs 15.4lbs.

I'm NOT running a slider, so additional hardware include: floor mount, seat mount, and receptacle.

Educated guess but I'm thinking at least 35lbs per seat if you include all hardware (over my M sport seats which were power & heated).

How on earth did you get the seat out? The interior on my roadster was recently replaced, inc the seats, and we had the advantage of being able to take the seat out with the roof down! That was tricky enough...

Seat comes out very easily in the coupe - just unbolt, lift & twist over to the other side of the transmission tunnel, and then back it out of the door.

I've done it a few times to fit additional first aid box then fire extinguisher, and for when I do a full interior vacuum & shampoo (just leave the seats out until I'm finished.

As mentioned before, only removed driver side hence no air bag light. That's only an issue if you mess with passenger side. The workaround would be to either remove your existing seat mat or purchase a new one, and install inside your new seat.

Do you have a pre-facelift model? I read the airbag only become a complicated from 06+...
