Recall: Vanos Adjuster (2011 SDrive 30i)

BMW have just sent me an early notification of a recall for a faulty Vanos adjuster that could put the car into limp mode (and perhaps
damage the engine). My car is a 2011 SDrive 30i (N52). I imagine others will also be getting these. The letter doesn't indicate exactly which models are affected.

I'm pleasantly surprised that they're contacting owners of a 13 year old car

I believe they were N52 between 2009 and 2012 ish..


In the US this has been 'grinding on' for some time!

There was about 9 years ago a vanos bolt recall on a small number of UK cars. Try Dvla recall site. They did list affected vins.

My colleagues car was a 2011 23i, called back 9 years ago. My 2009 23i wasn't affected.
Perhaps they are expanding the call back.

I think they must be, as the Mrs 2010 23i had the same letter… how much disassembly is required? Wondering if this will mean a free cam cover gasket replacement??

My 2010 2.3 had the recall done last week.
I did not get a letter, I just phoned the nearest dealer and they did the job with no fuss.
Took them about 4 hrs

yup me too, on my 2011 23i. Hoping i can get my trusted garage to do it rather than going to a main dealer.

I got one, plus I have the same engine in my 5 series touring so I got a letter for that as well

I am in Spain and I have not received any notification, when I typed in my UK registration in the UK Gov MOT site which still shows details of my car including expired MOT (as I imported it onto Spanish registration), it says no recalls outstanding. Mine was built June 2009 or maybe a bit earlier, does anyone know if there is a manufacturing date from when this engine was affected? Maybe I should enquire with a BMW dealer here just in case.
