Recall in The Netherlands.

In The Netherlands there is a recall on 14.000 BMW's also mine Z4 30i needs to go to the dealership.

BMW is recalling nearly 14,000 cars in the Netherlands due to starter motor problems. The recall affects cars built between September 2015 and September 2021, a spokesperson for the car manufacturer reports. In the worst-case scenario, the problem could cause a fire. BMW therefore advises owners to park their cars outdoors until the starter motor has been replaced.

The starter motor problem is also affecting vehicles outside the Netherlands: 1.2 million cars are being recalled worldwide. According to the spokesperson, water can get into the starter motor, sometimes making it impossible to start. Overheating and short circuiting can also occur, posing a fire risk. BMW has not yet reported any incidents.

Owners of BMWs affected by the recall, which includes models such as the BMW 230i and, according to Reuters, the Toyota Supra, which uses the most powerful BMW four-cylinder engine (referred to as the 30i in BMW model designations), will be notified by their dealer. If some customers cannot be reached in this way, BMW will send a message via the car's system.

Presume you were contacted by BMW or did you have to make enquiries?
Nope, after reading this I did a DVLA recall check on the reg and yes it was showing as having a recall. Then rang Parks BMW to confirm and booked it in, they will have the car for a full day.

What model do you have, no recent recalls on the DVLA site that I checked

Again in Dutch but now 2025 recall.

My recall has just arrived in the post today.
The letter said parts stock was being secured and BMW would be in touch to arrange for the repair to be carried out.

Just got the same letter today. It said in the mean time keep the car parked away from buildings (i.e. not garaged or car port i guess) as it can potentially cause a fire. Nice.

My wife just had that letter and is trying to get a slot with our local dealer, but after our service experience with it, we are very reluctant to let them have the car ever again.

Has anyone seen the statistics on the number of fires attributable to this problem in order to assess the risk? The car is now 5 years old and has always, and will remain, garaged when not being (minimally) used.

Found this:

BMW has issued a significant recall for various models, including the G29 Z4, due to a starter motor defect that poses a potential fire risk, and has not disclosed the total number of fire incidents. The company is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities linked to this specific defect as of the time of the recall announcements in late September/early October 2025.

Not just Z4
