Reattaching the ‘melted plastic’ type bonding on the dash trim

The leather on the dash trim above the glovebox has a small mark, and eBay has the piece I need. However, the trim around the buttons has been removed. That’s fine, my trim in the wood finish.

Is it possible to remove my wood trim and add it to the new piece? From what I can tell, it’s melted in place, a bit of a one way thing - I can’t see how I can recreate the process.

Anyone managed to fix this, glue or small screws or something else?

Pic of the back of the leather part, where the wood trim attaches.

Thanks!

When I re-attached my carbon fibre’s fronts to the the plastic rears I used a heat gun glue through the drilled out plastic rivet positions..I found that there’s a degree of flex on the trim..this resulted in some separation…my second attempt used epoxy glue using clamps to preload the assembly whilst it set..

No problems with the mark 2 version..

When I did mine what I did was to drill out the trim side and insert a plastic peg in each hole. These were glued in place with epoxy. Once set I then brought the two sections together and then clamped together. I used epoxy again to glue the pegs to the other half, making a solid fix

Oooo, found some photos...

I used a soldering iron to melt the plastic into a shape that would allow the pieces to pull apart. When putting it back together use the soldering iron again to melt it and something metal to press it flat.

When I did my carbon fiber trims I used PU adhesive like Tiger Seal, it's what they use for bonding car body panels togehter. A little bit of the PU adhesive and clamp the panel until the adhesive dries / sets.

Brilliant, thanks for all the info everyone. This is a massive help and will set me on my way (just need to decide one which route to go down!)
