Rear suspension knock - SOLVED

I’ve been where you’ve been

The plus side is when you find it and fix it you’ll be elated

Well I think it's sorted.

I went back to the Lemforder mounts I was using that previously gave a more muffled knock than the harder polyurethane mounts.

I ground about 1mm of the inner metal sleeve on the bottom side.
I also added an extra rubber washer to the top convex washer.

The result of this is when torqued up and the metal sleeve is clamped between the upper and lower convex washers, the surrounding rubber (with knobbly bits) is clamped up more firmly, between the convex washers.
All seems quiet now.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts/suggestions.

Big shout out to you Zummerset, did not realise this post was only yesterday, perfect timing, you saved my road trip. Having thought I fixed this it came back yesterday. Found this thread and drilled the Febi top mount sleeve with a 13mm drill bit to a depth of around 5 mm on both sides then countersunk both ends…. Appears problem solved. Thank you. I did place this on a FB forum page too.

Glad my mutterings helped!

It does seem odd that these mounts are so sensitive to dimensional differences. I guess the manufacturing tolerances mean aome mounts clamp up tight and some have that mm or so movement, which is enough to cause the noise.
